NEP Supershooters EN2
NEP’s newest production unit, EN2, made its major-event debut last weekend for the 2015 premiere of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball regular-season coverage. It’s the first time in a decade that the program has new facilities to call home, and it is the result of a lot of collaborative work between NEP and ESPN. The front wall features 32-in. monitors as well as eight 20-in. monitors, giving the team the ability to pipe nearly 180 images into the main wall. And the video area, which features room for four operators, is also spacious. EN2 builds off lessons from previous NEP trucks, most notably EN1 and ND1, to make sure the production team is as comfortable as possible. It also has small creature comforts, such as USB ports for charging phones and tablets.

Powersoft Glides Through its World Ski Challenge in Sweden
Swedish production company DAT AB, working in conjunction with Ljudteknik AB, recently undertook one of its most challenging tasks ever when providing sound reinforcement, including 160kW of Powersoft heavy artillery, for the 2015 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun. And the quality of audio they managed to deliver exceeded all expectations over the 50km point-to-point course. DAT’s project manager Robert Nilsson says it is 22 years since the World finals were last held at this site and he was also in the sound team on that occasion. But since then the event (and sound system requirement) have grown considerably, with 320,000 people attending this year (around 35,000 per day). This placed huge demands on the sound company, who were sub-contracted to the event.

A Fox Sports first!
In the recent clash between Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie, Broadcast Rental helped Fox Sports achieve a spectacular opening shot in the Rotterdam Feyenoord stadium. When the plan arose for cameraman Ben de Graaf to jump out of a helicopter and follow the players as they emerged from the tunnel, join into the huddle and get ready to play, Broadcast Rental was approached to help out. A specially designed gyro-stabilized camera rig was created for the Canon C300 camera. To bring the signals back to the OB truck, Broadcast Rental put 2 helix antennas plus an additional 80 degree antenna on the roof of the Feyenoord stadium to follow the helicopter and the tandem-parachute as it descended into the stadium.

Hawk-Eye Confirmed as Goal-Line Technology Provider for Canada 2015
The decision comes after a tender process announced in December 2014, when interested FIFA-licensed GLT providers were invited to join an inspection visit to each of the venues in Edmonton, Moncton, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Hawk-Eye is a camera-based system, with seven cameras per goal installed as high as possible within the stadium structure. Utilising the latest technology of high-frame-rate cameras and cutting-edge vision-processing techniques, Hawk-Eye is able to locate the ball at all times even if it is only found by two of the seven cameras. The system is millimetre-accurate and indicates whether or not a goal has been scored within one second by a vibration and visual signal on each match official's watch.

The Lighting Designer, Mr. Juhyun Kim of Lite Factory in Korea, used them to replace another product for the show which was staged at the 6000 capacity Singapore Expo. It was the first time Juhyun had used BMFL Spots and the lights were positioned above the stage and on side podiums, and used to flood the stage in white – incorporating the artists and his dancers – and also used for tight-spotting of Taeyang, as well as for beaming out into the audience and filling the space with aerial ‘bursts’ and other effects.

JVC Delivers 40 Camcorders for HRT Croatia VJs
To meet the growing demands in quality and topicality of its newscasts, Hrvatska Radiotelevizija (HRT), Croatia‘s public service broadcasting corporation, based in Zagreb, recently made an extensive reorganization of its regional centers. As a part of the restructuring, very sophisticated tasks, which only can be handled with the latest camcorders, are assigned to the video journalists (VJs) responsible for news. Thus, existing equipment was put to test, with the result that about 40 new handheld camcorders were required. Petra Dražić, from department "Integrated Media Operations", was one of the engineers in charge for selecting suitable camcorders. She had to reconcile the requests of VJs and the production team as well as to meet technical and budgetary requirements. Bluebell Opticom Introduces Caddie-LB 4K
Specifically designed for OB and deployable applications, the Caddie-LB 4K provides a single-cable link between cameras and ENG/OB units. Features include four 3G/HD/SD-SDI video paths from the camera's on-air audio, intercom, and control data. Based on field-proven technology, the units offer the operator a range of signals for camera control and synchronisation, including program video, audio, communications, data, and genlock. All signals are multiplexed onto two fibres to ensure easy and quick system rigging. The position of the camera is limited only by the availability of power and the length of the fibre cable within a given infrastructure. The typical setup uses a pair of portable Caddie-LB 4K enclosures — one for use near the camera and the other for use near the CCU as a "base" unit that offers corresponding signals to the CCU.
