Ready, set, go: Åre 2019 opens
The battle for the medals will now begin at the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2019 in Åre, Sweden. The local organizing committee has concluded its preparations for fantastic two weeks for the athletes, visitors, locals and TV viewers.
Scheduled from 4-17 February 2019, Åre 2019 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will mark the third time that the second largest winter sport event after the Olympic Winter Games is held in Åre, Sweden. After the 1954 and 2007 editions, Åre 2019 will welcome the world’s top skiers and some 120’000 visitors to an epic celebration of skiing, snow and winter. The 11 medal competitions staged in the unique atmosphere of the leading Scandinavian ski resort will excite millions of global viewers and inspire great numbers to join the sport in active practice.
– We only expect the best and the inspections of the race courses and the arena speak for a job well done by everyone involved, said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper.
Niklas Carlsson, CEO of Åre 2019, feels relieved about the start of the Championships and content with the ladies’ first downhill training.
– We have been preparing for this for 4.5 years so we don´t have any excuses, even though the weather is one thing we can´t control. After a rainy period around the New Year's, we have had excellent weather conditions. The race slopes have really hard snow so all athletes will have the fair and excellent racing conditions.

Global Production’s IP Truck Wins Ferrari Colour Shoot-out at Monza
Technology from Imagine Communications proved successful in an unusual challenge at Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in November 2018. Its systems power the new live Ultra HD production truck operated by Global Production, which took part in an extensive trial organised by Ferrari as part of its Ferrari Challenge World Final (1-4 November 2018). This trial determined who could deliver the most consistent and accurate live colour images across all resolutions — including, of course, Ferrari’s trademark. In the tests at the Ferrari Challenge, the Global Production truck beat the competition hands down during a competitive colour accuracy test. It delivered the most accurate rendition of Ferrari red to viewers watching on all standards, from SD and HD to Ultra HD in 4K and HDR. Aside from the test, Global Production was providing host broadcaster coverage of the four-day event for Sky Italia, RAI and other broadcasters around the world.
Nonprofit Veterans-TV Prepares to Launch Free TV Production Training
Newly formed 501(c)3 nonprofit Veterans-TV Inc. (VETV, www.veterans-tv.org) is preparing to launch hands-on professional television production training courses for veterans of the U.S. armed forces, law enforcement veterans, and firefighters who have lost their employment due to injury or attrition. VETV is creating a mobile classroom within Denali Gold, a remote production truck donated to the cause by NEP, and will provide courses in cities across the U.S. when integration of donated broadcast equipment is complete. "We're so grateful for the depth and breadth of generosity we're seeing from companies and individuals across the industry," said VETV President Bob Lefcovich, who has more than 50 years of experience working in broadcast production and postproduction. "Training on the best equipment with some of the industry's best professionals is an incredible opportunity, and I'm proud to be playing a role in bringing this opportunity to those who have served our country."

Jordan’s Al Mamlaka TV Broadcast Infrastructure Controlled By Lawo VSM
Al Mamlaka TV, a 24/7 HD news channel and Jordan’s first state-funded public service broadcaster, went on-air in July 2018. Although funded by the government, Al-Mamlaka (“The Kingdom”) offers public broadcasting services and is therefore neither state-owned nor commercial. It runs as an independent voice and delivers news and broadcast shows on both linear and OTT platforms. Jordan’s new public broadcaster resides in a completely new six-storey facility in King Hussein Business Park, Amman, which provides around 8,000sqm of space. This was a greenfield project without any legacy infrastructure or media equipment. Work started in August 2017 and commissioning was done in January 2018. April 2018 saw the successful completion of the project and official handover.
Slovenia’s Got Robe Talent
Slovenia is a small and perfectly formed country with a population of 2 million and replete with lots of entertainment-orientated talent including in lighting design, as LD Ziga Kranjne proved when he lit the 7th edition of Slovenia’s Got Talent. The series was recorded for broadcaster POP TV in Studio 4 of their complex in Ljubljana, and Ziga’s rig utilised Robe moving lights for its core elements, including MegaPointes, Spiiders, LEDWash 800s, Pointes, MMX Spots, CycFX 8s and a BMFL Blade… all supplied by Event Lighting, a leading Slovenian rental company for which he works full time as an LD and programmer.
Swansea City AFC Launches Live Streaming Platform with URSA Broadcast
Blackmagic Design announced that Swansea City Association Football Club (AFC) has developed its own streaming platform, SwansTV Live, with a live workflow featuring the Blackmagic URSA Broadcast and Smart Videohub 12G 40x40 router. Joining the English Football League (EFL) Championship at the start of the 2018-19 season created a new opportunity for the football club. GPS antenna tracker for ski jumping in Oberstdorf
For the kick-off of the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf on December 29 and 30, 2018, HDwireless was in action for the host broadcaster ZDF. The overall technical planning and the implementation of the host requirements were realized by the company "TopVision" under the leadership of Achim Jendges. On-site, HDwireless supported the OB-van service provider from Berlin with wireless camera systems and radio connections. HDwireless used its own development, the GPS antenna tracker, to receive live images from a camera helicopter. After a comprehensive hardware and software update last autumn, the established system offers many additional functions for the requirements of RF transmission. In addition to the "Traveled Path Recording" option already introduced, the latest version provides features such as "Auto GPS Location" and "KI Tracking Option".

Blackmagic Design announced that Josh Groban’s 21 date ‘Bridges’ tour relied on an end to end solution from Blackmagic Design, including Blackmagic URSA Broadcast camera chains, Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K and ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K, for live big screen content and unique video backdrops. Taking in major US and UK venues, including Madison Square Gardens and London’s O2 Arena, the tour’s live production was handled by video director, Stuart Merser of Vis-a-Vis Video, who was tasked with filling the huge performance spaces with an intimate and uplifting energy.

Sennheiser audio solutions elevate experience for skydivers at ‘dream of flight’ show in dubai
Music was central to the hour-long show which comprised of 14 routines and featured a variety of songs from 'A Million Dreams' to popular hits by artists including Lenny Kravitz. Sennheiser provided one transmitter and four receivers of its EW IEM G4 system as well as IE 40 in-ear headphones for each of the performers. The skydivers who used these in-ear monitors were most impressed with their performance and appreciated how much they helped coordinate their routines with the music that the audience heard during the show. “It was a new experience and it helped the performers execute their routines as per the flight plan. Also, it was easy for them to put the packs under their jumpsuits and fly,” explained Nadia Adamali who organized and produced the event.

Sometimes we think we've been attending CES since before we were born. O.K., that's an exaggeration. But we can't remember when the holidays – Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, whatever – weren't sidelined to make good products/services look great and great ones look stupendous for the world's biggest consumer technology unveiling event. At the Integrated Systems Europe 2019 tradeshow next week, NewTek will display more than a dozen selections from the world’s largest ecosystem of AV over IP products. NEP Europe Strengthens its Market Position in 4K UHD and IP Live
NEP Europe has selected Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, to enhance its capability with 75 IP-enabled 4K UHD HDR cameras and accompanying base stations. Strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading outsourced production partners, NEP has taken delivery of the new live production equipment for deployment across its fleet of OB trucks and studios.The new LDX 86N 4K cameras, along with XCU Universe UXF camera base stations, enable the delivery of unmatched picture quality with the flexibility to switch from native 4K UHD to HD, with 15 F-stop HDR operation. The added IP connectivity also allows NEP to seamlessly meet a range of live production needs, including remote production. Forty-five of the cameras will be upgrades of NEP’s existing Grass Valley cameras in Germany and the remaining 30 will replace NEP’s cameras from another manufacturer at the company’s Italian operation.
Sony VENICE High Frame Rate will come up to 4K 120fps
Sony will be upgrading the capabilities of its next-generation motion picture camera system, VENICE, by introducing High Frame Rate (HFR) shooting, advanced remote-control functionalities and Cooke/i3 and Zeiss extended metadata support, as part of its latest firmware update. Following the recent release of VENICE’s firmware Version 3.0 and the upcoming launch of its Extension System (CBK-3610XS), which was developed in collaboration with James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and is currently being used to shoot the AVATAR sequels, the latest upgrade will offer filmmakers even greater creative freedom, flexibility and choice.
