Olympic Games 2012 Start in 5 Weeks – Enxaneta 3D Tomorrow in New York

BTV 3D/2D OBVan
Beijing Television (BTV) is a government-owned television network in the People's Republic of China. It broadcasts from Beijing. The channel is available only in Chinese. Recently Sony has delivered a 2D/3D OBVan. The state-of-the-art OB truck is equipped with 10 HD cameras, including two Sony 3D camcorders and two super slow motion cameras. Six of the cameras can be combined to create three 3D cameras. EVS’ flexible XT3 servers can be configured to support both HD production, and simultaneous 2D and 3D production. For HD production with 10 HD cameras, two XT3 servers are used in an eight-channel HD configuration with Beijing Television’s main and back-up Sony switchers. One switcher produces the 2D signal while the other operates in 3D mode. The Sony switcher’s DVE board combines the 2D camera signals to create 3D signals.

CCTV 3D Flyaway
China Central Television (CCTV), is the predominant state television broadcaster in mainland China. CCTV has a network of 22 channels broadcasting different programmes and is accessible to more than one billion viewers. Most of its programmes are a mixture of documentary, comedy, entertainment, and drama, the majority of which consists of Chinese soap operas and entertainment. CCTV produces its own news broadcasts three times a day. On 23 January 2012 CCTV together with other Chinese broadcasters has launched a new free-to-air 3D Channel. Programming will include live events, including the 2012 London Olympics and CCTV's coverage of the nation's Spring Festival, as well as sports, dramas, documentaries, animation and other entertainment. For this purpose Sony has delivered a 3D Flyaway.

In 2004, the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) decided to move some of its broadcast operations to MediaCityUK, a 200-acre site located at Salford Quays on the banks of the Manchester Ship Canal. The aim was for MediaCityUK to become one of the most important broadcast and media production centres in the country. BBC Children, BBC Research and BBC Radio 5 Live were all scheduled to move to the new media centre in late 2011. And the decision to move BBC Sport was made so there would eventually be a major integrated sports broadcast centre which would benefit from the most advanced digital broadcast and media technology.With live broadcasts representing approximately 95% of daily operations, BBC Sport’s technology choices were designed to deliver content quickly and efficiently, while maintaining the highest quality standards. In Spring 2011, BBC Sport’s technical management team confirmed their decision to implement a workflow solution combining EVS’ integrated production management systems and Harmonic’s nearline storage to provide the backbone of their new Sports Production System.

Multiple Shows, One Control: Channel 9 Studio Installs MA Lighting System
Channel 9 productions “Today Show”, “Mornings” and “A Current Affair” have recently moved into their larger Studio 22 at the Sydney Channel 9 premises to share the studio with “Wide World of Sports”, “Sunday Footy Show”, “Australia’s Funniest Home Video”, “The Footy Show” plus other shows. This studio can produce between 6.5hrs and 9hrs of live television seven days a week so with this in mind, the decision was made to upgrade of the studio control room. As well as a new vision switcher, production area and studio floor upgrade, the studio control room now houses a brand new MA Lighting system comprising of two grandMA2 light consoles, a MA NPU (Network Processing Unit), a MA onPC command wing and a grandMA2 fader wing.

UK-first, Students´ live broadcast Breaking records with TriCaster
Students from the University of Portsmouth have broken new ground by being the first undergraduates in the country to produce and air four hours of live television coverage. Produced with two TriCaster live production and streaming systems… and a lot of enthusiasm, this live record performance required professional skills and endurance. The 46 students and four staff from the School of Creative Technologies BSc Television and Broadcasting course ran a four-hour magazine-style show, which aired on the BBC Big Screen in Portsmouth Guildhall Square. The show was streamed live across the campus and on the internet.

Olympic Summer Sports 2012
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London 26 sports will be contested. Seven of the 26 sports on the Olympic program in London consist of multiple disciplines: Aquatics with Diving, Swimming, Synchronised Swimming and Waterpolo; Canoeing/Kayak with Sprint and Slalom; Cycling with BMX, Mountain Biking, Road and Track; Gymnastics with Artistic, Rhythmic and Trampoline; Volleyball with Beach and Indoor; Equestrian with Dressage, Eventing and Jumping. This adds up to 38 Olympic Events taking place in London. These events will take place at 31 locations at the Olympic Park, in the city of London and accross the UK.

Alfacam & Eurolinx cover the 2012 ITU World Triathlon Series in Madrid and Kitzbühel
This year's ITU World Triathlon Series will take place from April till October 2012 in 8 different countries. Alfacam and its daughter wireless company Eurolinx cover 2 of the 8 competitions : Madrid in co-production with ISB TV and Kitzbühel in co-production with Tri Austria Event- und Management GmbH. The series in Madrid was covered in May 2012. The series in Kitzbühel (23-24 June 2012) will be produced by Alfacam & Eurolinx for the event organizer Tri Austria Event- und Managament GmbH. For each event, 1 OB XXL truck, 1 OB RF wireless truck (OB 8), 2 moto’s and 1 helicopter are used for the production. A team of 30 persons including 7 wireless engineers of Eurolinx are present during the events.

2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
In a historic event featuring many of the top names in rock and roll, Firehouse Productions supplied a live sound reinforcement system featuring HARMAN’s JBL VTX line arrays with Crown I-Tech HD amplification for the 27th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio. The event featured performances by inductees Guns N’ Roses, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Donovan, The Small Faces/Faces, Beastie Boys, The Crickets and more. Other inductees included Freddie King, Don Kirshner, Cosimo Matassa, Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns. Leading up to the ceremony, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame held many special events including the unveiling of the new Library and Archives section of the museum.

The Israeli Opera’s Carmen at Masada
It’s the third year that the Festival has taken place at Masada. The 2012 event featured six performances of Carmen conducted by maestro Daniel Oren including a public dress, plus a gala evening / rock concert – all attended by capacity attendances of 7,500. Director Giancarlo del Monaco specifically wanted a naturalistic and very organic look to the lighting to match the raw aesthetics of the environment. The equipment was supplied by UK based rental company HSL, working with overall technical production suppliers The Design Group from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

TV Galicia Chooses Chyron HyperX³.¹ On-Air Graphics Systems
Televisión de Galicia (TVG), Spain's only Galician-language broadcaster, has installed two Chyron HyperX³.¹ on-air graphics systems as part of a major HD studio upgrade at its central broadcasting facility in Santiago de Compostela. The Chyron HyperX³.¹ systems have been installed to provide presentation graphics for news and daytime programming in TVG's newly refitted Studio 1 and Studio 2, which now have full HD production capabilities. Chyron's CAMIO graphics asset management server integrates the two HyperX³.¹ systems with TVG's installation of the AP NRCS news production system.

Dentsu Chooses EVS C-Cast to Power VOLLEYBALL EyeSurround Second Screen App
Dentsu, which holds the rights to international volleyball matches for 2013 to 2020, decided to implement a second screen service to complement traditional broadcasting of Olympic volleyball qualification matches. Powered by C-Cast, VOLLEYBALL EyeSurround enables viewers to access additional content to the main live broadcast of matches, including clips from multiple camera angles. With this unprecedented installation, Dentsu is the world’s first sports media company to offer this exclusive service to the public. C-Cast is integrated into the existing live broadcast production infrastructure to enable the production team to deliver short clips from multiple viewing angles to a cloud-based storage, which can then be distributed immediately to viewers.

3D Screening of "Enxaneta" in New York
“Enxaneta”, the 3D documentary film from TV3, the public Catalan television, on the world of human towers, will be screened in New York on 23 June. The screening will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the AMC Lincoln Square Theater in the Upper West Side in Manhattan, New York City, and will coincide with a demonstration from Castellers de Vilafranca, one of the most important human tower groups in Catalonia. This group from Vilafranca will participate in the presentation of “Enxaneta”, with performances before and after the screening of the film. Among those attending the demonstration of the human tower will be the president of the Government of Catalonia, Mr. Artur Mas.

3D Coverage of Wimbledon 2012
The shooting will take place with six 3D capable cameras being placed around the centre court off which 5 would be on 3ality Technica Pulsar rigs that carry the Sony P1 camera. The one that will be placed in the commentary box would be a PMW-TD300 camcorder. For capturing interviews and other ad-hoc shots another PMW-TD300 will be used. The two Gemini trucks from NEP Visions are on hand again building on their last years experience. One of the trucks is dedicated to the streographer and six convergence operators while the other truck houses the video and audio production areas. Another technical partner of the team is Can Communicate. This years workflow is based on tapeless recording with HDCAM SR-R1000 machines.
