MOBILE PRODUCTION
NEP Supershooters EN3
Every NEP launch pushes the technological envelope. The debut of EN3 for ESPN on March 30, however, was historic: it’s the first truck in North America built around a SMPTE ST 2110 IP routing core. After a long standardization process, SMPTE officially published the first standards within ST 2110 Professional Media Over Managed IP Networks in December, and EN3 is the first mobile unit to be designed and integrated specifically around the new standards suite. Of course, installing the first SMPTE 2110 core was about much more than bragging rights for NEP. Rather, the IP infrastructure in EN3 allowed NEP to create one of the most flexible mobile units ever. Although EN3 is fully capable of 4K and HDR production, there are no near-term plans to utilize these capabilities.

Appear TV Provides Video Delivery Solution to Video Assisted Referee Systems (VAR)
Appear TV, a leading provider of solutions for video contribution, distribution and streaming, has deployed low latency contribution links for the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in top football leagues in Europe and Asia, strengthening its position as a preferred vendor for this application. During broadcasted sporting events, video footage of an incident is reviewed by the VAR, who then advises the referee on what the video is showing so that a more accurate, on-the-spot decision can be made. For football, this typically ranges from scoring plays/goals, penalties, red cards and mistaken identity, and serves as an added tool to relook at the play or incident to ensure the correct call was made on the field.
