NEP Visions is celebrating 30 years of delivering outside broadcast facilities and services for a diverse range of events and clients. From small but confident beginnings with its first OB vehicle, Visions Mobiles 1, Visions has become the UK’s largest supplier of OB facilities, covering such prestigious events as multiple royal weddings and Olympic Games, and a decade of Champions League Finals. Visions has consistently led the way in technological advances, delivering the first digital truck in the UK and building its first HD truck in 2002; HD1 was used for Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Slane Castle concert, the first ever full HD shoot in Europe. Observe Genelec's - Premier Outside Broadcast Kit
Observe is one of Ireland’s leading Outside Broadcast (OB) providers and offers services to a wide range of productions, from sport to light entertainment to special events including state visits. Recently, Observe has handled some of Ireland’s most memorable events, including Queen Elizabeth’s historic state visit – the first from a UK Head of State in 100 years. Crucial to Observe’s success in this area are the company’s OB trucks which, for both reliability and performance, have been kitted out with Genelec’s 8000 Series of active monitors. Observe has delivered successful OB services for The Voice Ireland and the Six Nations Rugby broadcasts, both at home in Dublin and as host broadcaster in Rome. Observe also holds the contract to supply OB facilities to RTE, Ireland’s state broadcaster.

Qvest Media Completes Alarab News Channel Project
Qvest Media has completed its delivery and implementation of all production, broadcast and distribution facilities for the Arab region’s latest breaking-news channel, Alarab. Due to go live later this year, Alarab will deliver a completely fresh style of presenting news from around the world that matters most to those living and working in the Middle East and North Africa. Based in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, the all-Arabic channel will include extensive news programming as well as regular news roundups and business information in association with Bloomberg. Qvest Media managed all aspects of the project including design, planning and technical integration. The scope includes two studios with affiliated control rooms as well as the latest technologies for monitoring, video and graphics editing and editorial processes.

Vinten Radamec Tops the Winner’s Podium at Sky F1 Studio
Vinten Radamec, a world leader in robotic camera support systems, has supplied a range of its innovative equipment to Sky Italia for a brand new dedicated Virtual Reality facility. The studio, one of the six Sky Italia facilities based in Milan, has been installed with three of Vinten Radamec’s Quattro SE encoded pedestals alongside three of the company’s renowned Vector 750i pan and tilt heads, an ideal choice for large camera combinations where virtual or augmented reality is required. The project began in February in the studio which was originally used to cover the Winter Games in Sochi. One month after the Games ended, Vinten Radamec’s key distributor in Italy, Trans Audio Video (TAV), installed and integrated the systems.

St. Louis Symphony Optimizes Capabilities for Recording and Live Broadcast
Looking for a digital console to meet its needs for high-resolution recordings and live radio broadcasts, the prestigious St. Louis Symphony found the ideal solution in HARMAN’s Studer Vista 5 console. Offering 128 channels at a 96kHz sample rate, the Vista 5 has given the Symphony tremendous versatility, redundancy and world-class audio quality. The St. Louis Symphony is currently in its fifth season of broadcasting, where each of its Saturday evening orchestral series performances are aired live on St. Louis Public Radio 90.7-KWMU. “It’s truly a live broadcast, nothing is pre-taped,” said Paul Hennerich, lead engineer for the St. Louis Symphony and owner of the Pan Galactic Company. “The Vista 5’s redundancy and flexibility have really made a difference this season. And the board also enables us to work with multiple streams during the performances.”

Incheon Asian Games 2014 Holds Grand finale with Closing Ceremony
The 2014 Incheon Asian Games, which kicked off on September 19, had its grand finale with the closing ceremony at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium on October 4. XD motion provided all specialty cameras for Athletics, Swimming and Rowing. Athletics: X fly 3D and X track 100 meters double heads (Hi Speed and standard HD). These cameras were also in action during the opening and the closing ceremonies. Swimming/Synchro/Diving: X fly 2D, X track 50 meters double heads, Underwater cameras and track, Plungcam. Rowing: Cine G Gyro stabalized head on travelling car crane. On the sporting side, there were 17 world records, 34 Asian records, and 116 Asian Games records. It is noticeable that 37 countries out of 45 NOC members won medals while China dominated the medal tables and South Korea and Japan rounded out the top three.

CT at The Ryder Cup
The 2014 Ryder Cup, held at Gleneagles, Scotland, is Creative Technology’s 8th European Ryder Cup and, by some margin, the largest and most complex in its 29 year relationship with the event. The most visible element of Creative Technology’s (CT) package is the numerous large screens positioned around the course, on the Opening and Closing Ceremony stages and in the three park and ride centres. A total of 21 screens ranging in size from 8m2 to 100m2 have been installed; many in extremely inaccessible locations. The overall screen area totals 750 m2, an increase of over 50% compared to the 2010 event held at Celtic Manor in Wales.

Riedel Serves as Radio and Intercom Services Provider for European Athletics Championships
"Riedel Switzerland provided us with seamlessly integrated solutions for video transport and communications, and the company's professional support not only enabled optimal use of the Riedel gear, but also ensured that the hundreds of volunteers and other professionals involved in the event were able to use their radio systems effectively," said Christoph Joho, marketing director of the Leichtathletik EM 2014 AG. "The flexibility of Riedel's fiber-based, networked solutions made it possible to accommodate changing communications or video-transport requirements very simply and very quickly." Riedel Switzerland deployed four Artist digital matrix intercom systems to enable communications across the stadium and on the road race course in the Zurich city center. The team of 13 Riedel engineers working on site used the Riedel Juggler to enable the connection of TETRA radio systems to support nearly 500 volunteers and other professionals using Motorola radios.

Massive Robe Rig for 2014 iHeartRadio Music Festival
Tom Kenny specified over 500 Robe moving lights for the immensely popular 2014 iHeartRadio Music Festival, staged in the 15,000 capacity Ballroom of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for two consecutive days. With a glittering line up of stars – Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Usher, Nicki Minaj, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris, Bastille and many, many more including some show-stopping collaborations, the high profile spectacle was hosted by Ryan Seacrest and broadcast live on over 150 iHeartMedia radio stations across the country. It was also video streamed live over the internet reaching an estimated 2.5 billion additional viewers … with edited highlights aired as a special two night exclusive on the US’s CW network a week later.

Clay Paky B-EYEs with Lady Gaga for the ArtRave World Tour
Lady Gaga has launched her tour, ArtRave: The Artpop Ball, and Clay Paky’s A.leda B-EYE K20 innovative, LED-based moving lights and Clay Paky Sharpys are along for the wild ride. ArtRave marks Lady Gaga’s fourth concert tour. It is in support of her third studio album, “Artpop” and kicked off May 4 in Fort Lauderdale. It will play 78 dates in North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia. PRG has provided 120 B-EYEs for the tour as well as a large complement of Clay Paky Sharpys. Lighting control is performed with three full-size grandMA2s and 10 NPUs. For the ArtRave tour the lighting designer has deployed the Sharpy rig “all over the place: the main stage, front, rear, side, as well as on the pods over the audience. The Sharpys act as our other main effects light. I always have at least 100 if not 200 hundred on shows.”

Following the recent success of their highly successful solo tours, international superstars Beyoncé and Jay Z have combined their talents to deliver a musically scintillating and immaculately choreographed ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ themed stadium tour, ‘On The Run’. The tour, which recently completed a 20-date North American leg before heading off to Europe earlier this month, explores the vast and dynamic repertoire of the duo while highlighting their creative synergies, flawless fashion sensibilities and unique on-stage chemistry. For the duration of the tour, Beyoncé and Jay Z have relied on Sennheiser’s Digital 9000 wireless microphone system, which was purchased specifically for the tour by Eighth Day Sound Systems, Inc. at the recommendation of front-of-house engineer Stephen Curtin and monitor engineer James Berry – both veterans of the tour.

EVS Announces the Departure of Joop Janssen
In a meeting on October 10, 2014, the Board of Directors and Joop Janssen mutually agreed to end the term of the office and duties of Joop Janssen, managing director and CEO of EVS, due to differences in view about the implementation of the company’s long term strategy. This agreement is effective as of October 14, 2014, although Mr Janssen remains available as an advisor, allowing for a smooth transition. The Board of Directors has launched the search for a new CEO. Muriel De Lathouwer, currently a member of the Board of Directors of EVS, chairing the Strategy Committee, is appointed as the President of the Executive Committee on an interim basis. “I have great confidence in Muriel De Lathouwer’s capacities to perform this task, in close cooperation with the management team in place,” Pierre Rion added.

Optocore Boosts National Theatre's MADI Capacity
Commissioned by project engineer Tim Middleton, and senior sound technician Alex Caplen, the Optocore devices are distributed in pairs between the three theatres that make up the complex — the newly-named Dorfman (formerly Cottesloe), Lyttelton and Olivier Theatres. These are linked to the DiGiCo front of house consoles (SD7Ts in the Olivier and Lyttelton, SD10T in the Dorfman) with a roaming SD10T, which can be used as a rehearsal console or designer’s remote. After providing a redundant optical loop (via multimode fibre) at the 450-capacity Dorfman Theatre for its inauguration galas, the DD4MR-FX’s first high profile outing has been on the new David Byrne and Fatboy Slim musical Here Lies Love (with sound design by ML Dogg and Cody Spencer), which has transferred from the Public Theater, New York.

Sony Launches Networked Media Interface
Sony, in collaboration with 10 of the world’s leading broadcast industry organisations, has today launched the Networked Media Interface. The new AV over IP interface delivers low latency and noise-free switching of HD and 4K video, audio and metadata as part of IP-based networking. The Networked Media Interface packetizes video, audio and metadata, enabling real-time transmission between video-production products via standard network infrastructures. This technology will further enhance Sony’s IP Live Production system by increasing efficiency and reducing cost for the broadcasting of live studio and sports production.

I-MOVIX X10 UHD Delivers World Premiere 4K Live Super Slow Motion
Ultra slow motion took a major step forward as a live broadcast production tool, with the world-first use of 4K continuous super motion at the eni Motorrad Grand Prix in Germany. I-MOVIX’s X10 UHD was used in a variety of innovative ways to explore the system’s potential in both 4K and HD coverage. Exclusive MotoGP television rights holder Dorna Sports used an X10 UHD system in 4K high speed modes at 500, 750 and 1,000 fps, and in 4K 2x super slow motion delivering a continuous 2160p feed at 100 fps. The demonstration of the 4K capture in continuous super slow motion is a world first, the X10 UHD being the only system capable of doing this live. During the event, Dorna Sports also pioneered continuous 10x super slow motion in 1080 HD at 500fps.
