MOBILE PRODUCTION
A World's First: Ü8 of TV Skyline with Lawo IP Video and Audio Stageboxes
As the world’s first OB van to be based on fully IP-implemented audio and video stageboxes, TV Skyline’s pioneering technological design philosophy makes Ü8 a milestone in modern OB production – the truck’s crew have greater flexibility and space than offered by a conventional design, and its technical options provide increased working efficiency and flexibility, resulting in more creative freedom. The new concept was made possible through the use of V__Link4 IP-based stageboxes and RAVENNA DALLIS routing from Lawo. The Rastatt/Germany-based company was not only involved with Ü8 as manufacturer, but also a as development partner – TV Skyline and Lawo jointly developed the optimized network structure that underpins the mobile studio.
Broadcast Solutions delivers new HD OBVan to German public Broadcaster BR
German public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk has started the modernization of its infrastructure from SD to HD. As part of this conversion process, Broadcast Solutions GmbH has been commissioned to build the new BR FÜ2 OB Van. The OB truck specialist from Bingen delivered the 8-camera van to the customer at the end of 2014. The BR FÜ2 has since then been used in various productions, including the ski jumping World Cup in Lillehammer, the 4-Hills Tournament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the G7 Summit 2015 (at the press centre in Garmisch-Partenkirchen), the Queen's visit to Berlin, and productions for the famous Waldbühne in Berlin (in 5.1. Audio). The BR FÜ2 with its five comfortably sized areas provides enough space, to even manage large productions in a relaxed way.

The OB van is using Ross video Production Center Switcher Acuity 3ME, and second program switcher Carbonite 1ME, Imagine Communications Platinum 256 router, Grass Valley Slow Motion and multiviewers. A Lawo mc²56 MK II audio system permits multiple surround mixes, with the capability of producing a variety of signals.
SPORTS
ATEM packs a punch at amateur boxing’s biggest event
Three years ago Claire Wilkie spotted a gap in the sports market. Not only were many smaller sports struggling to produce professional quality coverage, either through a lack of budget or production skills, but they were also often prohibited by the physical dimensions of the venues staging the competitions. “Many sports want to grow their fanbase, and they know that one of the best ways of achieving that is by using the internet and television to broaden access to these sports that are otherwise inaccessible,” explains Claire. “However, if the production values are poor or the coverage lacks great looking match analysis, viewers will quickly switch off. Combine this with cramped and unglamorous venues and sporting associations often find themselves hamstrung.”

EVS to demonstrate “IP4Live” live remote production alongside Cisco at IBC2015
Using EVS’ new XiP gateway enabling in/out IP links to its live video server, EVS will demonstrate multi-feed live remote production – via SMPTE 2022 uncompressed video – over an IP network using Cisco’s standard IP switches and software defined networking (SDN). The demonstration will show how software defined networking (SDN) guarantees reliable, low-latency high-quality video flow between remote sites. Moreover, the configuration ensures the necessary bandwidth for production-critical video flows while dynamically allocating all remaining bandwidth to best-effort traffic such as file transfers. Cisco and EVS are collaborating to help broadcasters, content owners and rights holders worldwide apply IP technologies to live video production workflow.
