Broadcast Pix Announces Integration Between Rundown Creator, Rapid CG Software
“Our integration with Rundown Creator saves time and reduces errors,” explained Steve Ellis, CEO of Broadcast Pix. “Information for lower-thirds, over-the-shoulder graphics, and other graphic elements can be exported directly from Rundown Creator to Rapid CG as an XML file, and then automatically incorporated into templates in show order. That means the CG operator doesn’t have to input the data a second time or reorganize it.”The Rapid CG / Rundown Creator integration, which is now shipping, was recently developed at the request of Steven Trauger, TV/AV facility engineer for Ocean City, N.J. Schools. Ocean City High School began to upgrade its production facilities to HD in early 2014. SGM Fixtures Illuminate Indonesian TV Programmes
No fewer than 40 units of SGM P-5 TW (tunable white wash lights) and 40 units of Q-7 W (white flood, blind and strobe), fitted with 8-way Barndoors and Accessory Holders, were recently acquired as part of the light inventory for the Indonesian D’Six Studio, which is owned and operated by PT. TRANS TV designers were so impressed by the performance of the SGM units that they have added a rental of 8 P-5 TW and 10 Q-7 W for another popular TV quiz, HITAM PUTIH/My Games. The trend soon transmitted to another TV station, TV One, whose fascination with the brightness of the SGM lights resulted in the deployment of 12 P-5 TW and 10 Q-7 W for their hit programme, GESTURE, ROUNDTABLE and RESPOND.

GLP X4 impressions Strut Their Stuff with Lenny Kravitz
The two designers repeated the magic they had introduced for the earlier 2011 tour, but this timemaking the centrepiece an automated retro-style overhead sphere, with unfoldingpetals revealing the light sources, redolent of the global ‘superdiscos’ of the 1990s. To animate this mechanical sculpture — which was expertly fabricated by Tait Towers — they populated it with a total of 12 GLP impression X4 XL, 16 impression X4 and 32 impression X4 S; the inventory was supplied by Philadelphia based rental company, Atomic Lighting, and this was the first time the new X4 XL had beenspecified in North America (albeit for a European Tour).

HSL Shares the Power of Love with Sam Bailey
HSL supplied lighting equipment and crew to the current UK tour by X-Factor winner Sam Bailey. The lighting rig needed to be flexible and adaptable to fit into the variety of different stage spaces, and was based around two trusses and a selection of lights that were all worked extremely hard explained Lighting Operator Tim Fawlkes, who looked after the tour on the road for Andy and HSL. The 40 ft front truss was joined by a 46 ft rear one – the wider span was needed to accommodate eight Robe CycFX 8 moving LED battens rigged directly underneath the front rail. These were used to skim down the Austrian curtain as well as for creating big blankets of light sweeping across the stage.

Clay Paky Adds ‘Extra Dimension’ on Ed Sheeran
Acoustic pop superstar Ed Sheeran is currently on a major worldwide tour, with Lighting and Production Designer Mark Cunniffe using super powerful Clay Paky A.leda B-EYE K20 and Sharpys to hold their own against his video-heavy theme. Cunniffe’s design is beautifully multi-layered and sees the Clay Paky fixtures, supplied by NEG Earth, working with the video to give variation to the solo artist’s stage set up. “As Ed’s show is one guy with an acoustic guitar on a 60ft wide stage, it ends up looking pretty bare, so we made the show very much video-based,” explains Cunniffe. “The B-EYEs and Sharpys perfectly supplement this as they deliver a plethora of varying looks. I put 30 Sharpys upstage behind a broken screen arrangement of video, where they stab through the gaps unexpectedly to add another dimension that no one will have seen before. I use them to ‘paint’ rather than as a lighting effect – they give depth to what could be visually quite a flat show.”
