Reality Check Systems Powers Super Bowl XLVIII Live Coverage
24 RCS “Bullet” custom hardware/software mobile graphics systems, including a “Twitter Bullet” module, to incorporate live Tweets into broadcast graphics, were in the field and were in use until the completion of the game. Several Super Bowl-related broadcasts, including NFL Network’s live international feed of the game, also featured graphics packages built and powered by RCS’ in-house team.

Johannesburg based EFX Productions has been providing OB services in South Africa for more than a decade, working with staging companies, transmission service providers and creative directors to produce sporting events, concerts, television series and documentaries. Founder Brendan Marsay has more recently been taking on bigger and increasingly complex productions, requiring him to upgrade the live production capabilities on his company’s OB van with the help of local broadcast systems integrator Telemedia (PTY) Ltd.

Clear-Com Intercoms Drive Educational Program at Middlesex University

Abu Dhabi Media Installs Fifth Calrec Audio Console
"The mixer is designed for live TV broadcast and is one of the most reliable desks on the market with one of the fastest cold-start times available — which was an important requirement for us," said Abdul Farid Kabani, head of TV engineering and maintenance at ADM. "We used to have an analog audio mixer, so for audio embedded in SDI we needed to use an external de-embedder. The Omega provides that functionality as well as the ability to create multiple projects and load them instantaneously. The console is extremely reliable, with multiple backups as standard in critical areas like control and DSP."

Turkey’s National Public Broadcaster Selects Litepanels
The two studios, home to the network’s rolling and hourly news programmes, have recently been installed with 82 of Litepanels’ renowned 1x1 Mono daylight fixtures, together with range of 2x1 manual yokes, which mount two 1x1 fixtures side-by-side. TRT has been operating out of its Ankara base for more than forty years, and transmits a wide array of international and domestic programmes, from news and live sports, to popular music and magazine programmes. The Litepanels’ equipment was selected as part of the organisation’s bid to improve efficiencies in both costs and energy savings across its multiple studios.

Norwegian Parliament Chooses Snell for New Multi-Studio HD Production Facility
The broadcasting arm of the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) chose a Snell Kahuna 360 Compact multi-format production switcher and a Snell Sirius 830 large-scale router with Advanced Hybrid Processing (AHP) for the final phase of its migration to HD operations. Supplied and integrated by Video 4 AS and Megahertz Broadcast Systems, the Kahuna 360 Compact and Sirius 830 enable live 1080p coverage of all Parliament sessions.

MTV to Broadcast Champions Hockey League Live in Finland
MTV will broadcast Champions Hockey League games extensively on its MTV Sport pay-TV channels as well as other network platforms. Specific plans about the number of broadcasted games will be communicated in spring. In addition, highlights and news will regularly be shown on free-TV. As part of the agreement, MTV will handle media production of games carried out in Finland, based on Infront’s high-level production guidelines developed specifically for the series.

Luke Bryan has rolled out his “That’s My Kind of Night Tour”, and Elite Multimedia Productions in Nashville is providing grandMA2 consoles as Bryan once again takes to the road. The popular country artist’s new tour is named after his latest single, which has catapulted to # 1 in the country charts. “We just concluded the Dirt Road Diaries Tour with Luke; his new tour will run from January 2014 to the end of October”, says Tom Wilson, vice president of event productions at Elite Multimedia Productions. Lighting designer Justin Kitchenman of Fade Up Design Group points out that Bryan “wants all of his productions to be big, ambitious and with lots of bells and whistles. When someone walks into this show they’re walking into a party.”

Guetta’s lighting is designed by Jonathan ‘Leggy’ Armstrong – well known for his imaginative and stylish shows which have graced several leading dance acts including Basement Jaxx. The touring team works with entirely locally sourced productions wherever they play, and lighting on the road for this leg of the ongoing world tour was overseen and operated by two Lighting Directors – Alex ‘Junior’ Cerio of Smash Productions and Sam MacLaren of LightLab – both also LDs in their own right. Between them and the video visuals produced by Ben Brett’s amazing and unique Pilot video control system, operated by Nick Briggs, Guetta gets a dynamic world class show wherever he plays.

Xsquare and XTAccess solutions will manage file delivery and transcoding, while the LSM Connect tablet solution for advanced clips and playlist management will be used in conjunction with the the industry-standard LSM Controller. Approximately 30 EVS IPDirector production management suites will be used across the multi-site network for ingest control, metadata management, on-the-fly editing and playout scheduling.
