An EDM DJ Held a Live Concert on Fortnite and 10 Million Attended. No, seriously.
EDM DJ Marshmello, famous for wearing a white bucket on his head in the shape of a marshmallow, has toured the world — from the biggest venues in Las Vegas to the nightclubs of Ibiza. Yet his recent venue was unlike any other: performing live in the most popular video game on the planet, Fortnite. Marshmello’s ten-minute set was among the most-attended online live performances in history at a reported 10 million concurrent views. During the event, “attendees” converged on the virtual town’s Pleasant Park to “hear” and “see” the EDM DJ perform, including a mashup of his hits including chart-topper “Happier,” as the DJ worked the turntables to amp the crowd.

The technol- ogy deployed in those OBs allows NEP Belgium to work across all kinds of custom productions. Unit 16 is the first example of Streamline S8L, using a different room design and a production desk arranged lengthways in the direction of motion. Offers 10 workplaces. An additional novelty refers to more flexible interconnectivity capabilities, using IP-based audio and video bridging devices.

SVT Scales bits EVS Resources to Deliver two Landmark World Championship Host Remote Productions
Around 75 uncompressed HD camera signals were transported in IP via two 100 Gbps Telia fiber circuits from the events in central Sweden to SVT’s three control rooms back in Stockholm. The main director and vision mixer operator for both events were directing from galleries in Åre and Östersund that were connected to SVT’s central control rooms.

There is a certain thrill to watching something on screen that’s unfolding live, in real-time in a completely different part of the world. This is one of the reasons why global sporting and entertainment events regularly draw in billions of viewers. Take the most recent major global football tournament, for example. An estimated 3.4 billion people watched some or all of the matches live in front of their TVs, laptops or even off their smartphones according to research company GlobalWebIndex. That’s nearly half of the world’s total population.But as consumers’ appetite for high-quality live content continues to grow, so do the challenges media companies face when capturing, distributing and broadcasting these events en masse.

FIA World Rally Championship Expands Coverage Capabilities Using LiveU HEVC Technologies Across 10 Events in 2019
Following on from a very successful test of LiveU’s technology at the ADAC Rallye Deutschland in Germany last August, WRC Promoter GmbH, the company that’s responsible for all commercial aspects of the FIA World Rally Championship, has signed up to use LiveU’s technology across 10 rallies this year. LiveU has already helped bring enhanced coverage of Rallye Monte-Carlo and Rally Sweden to viewers in 2019, with another eight events also set to benefit. They include: Tour de Corse, Rally de Portugal, Rally Italia Sardegna, Rally Finland, ADAC Rallye Deutschland, Rally Turkey, Wales Rally GB and Rally RACC Catalunya – Rally de España.

Robe SuperSpikies for Triggerfinger Shows
The band’s lighting designer is Erwin Van Lokeren and the lighting and audio equipment was supplied by rental specialist Splendit. The SuperSpikies were part of their most recent investment in Robe technologies, and these were the first of the small and super-bright luminaires to be delivered in Europe, supplied by Benelux distributor, Controllux. Last year Erwin started working for Triggerfinger who have been a constant presence on the Benelux rock scene since 1998. They decided to play these five showcases at the Roma rather that one large gig in one of the cities arenas. Roma is a well-known and loved arts and cultural hotspot in the vibrant Borgerhout area of Antwerp, originally built as a cinema in 1928.

Immersive audio for an immersive festival: L-ISA tastes the Wonderfruit
The L-ISA system design was a collaboration between Polygon Live and Director of L-ISA Labs, Sherif el Barbari. L-Acoustics Application Engineer, Alvin Koh, also worked closely on the project alongside sound designer and immersive mixing specialist, Davey Williamson, who has been involved in complex L-ISA designs such as SPYSCAPE experiential museum in New York City. “Davey’s proven ability to execute both a technical and creative delivery on L-ISA projects was an invaluable asset to us,” Heathcote says.

TVU Networks and South Korea’s KT Corp. Partner in World’s First 5G UHD Broadcast Network
KT, formerly known as Korea Telecom, showcased the world’s first trial 5G services during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in February 2018. KT also broadcast live the last concert of K-pop group Wanna One on its IPTV service, Olleh TV, earlier this year. The broadcast was delivered through set-top boxes and mobile devices using the 5G network. KT is expected to launch the network’s full-scale commercialization in April.
