Carrosserie Akkermans, projectbuilders, Sony and TVN set live production milestone with new 4K HDR OB truck
TVN MOBILE PRODUCTION, one of Europe's leading providers of mobile television services, has partnered with Carrosserie Akkermans, projectbuilders and Sony Professional Solutions Europe to expand its Outside Broadcast (OB) fleet and meet new live production demands. In collaboration with partners and third-parties Constructed by Carroserie Akkermans in the Netherlands Designed by projectbuilders in Belgium, integrated by Sony Professional Solutions in Basingstoke, TVN UE6 HDR is one of Europe’s largest and most advanced Outside Broadcast vehicles. It features high-quality UHD, HD and mixed productions. The workflow is developed jointly by Sony and TVN and is optimised for all production formats and standards (both SDR and HDR).
With a long history of developing Outside Broadcast trucks, including the world’s first purpose-built 4K/IP OB truck for TV Globo, Sony was chosen for its expertise and to build a custom-made solution for TVN that would meet its unique operational requirements and create a flexible, efficient live production environment.

Video Progetti Announces Debut of L’Opera’s Latest State-of-the-art Outside Broadcast Van
Italian broadcast distributor and systems integrator Video Progetti has announced that OB7, the state-of-the-art outside broadcast van it has designed and built for production company L’Opera Broadcast Video Service, will see its first live action in the first week of September. It has been under construction since late Spring. L’Opera’s specialises in the production of television coverage for a broad range of sports – football, volleyball and motor racing among others - as well as concerts, entertainment events and conventions. The company’s clients include key players in the national and international broadcast industry such as the BBC, CCtv, CNN, LA7, Mediaset, NHK, RAI and Sky.

MMC Studios: Reality TV in XXL
The TV experiment “Get the F*ck out of my House” sets new standards in TV production. The second season was shot in a real house with only 63 square meters of space in Mettmann, North Rhine-Westphalia. With more than 50 cameras, over 70 lights and hundreds of meters of cable, it was transformed into a television studio - without losing its “homey” atmosphere. As prime contractor, Cologne-based MMC Studios was responsible for this mammoth project for UFA Show & Factual GmbH. The principle of the show “Get the F*ck out of my House” may be quickly explained: 100 candidates move into a single-family home, live together in a very small space and compete against each other in games. The last one to leave the house wins € 100,000. A real challenge - not only for the participants, but also for the makers of the show. After all, the film was shot 24/7 on location for about a month - not in a studio, but in a real house: Only 63 square meters were available for the participants along with all of the technical equipment.

MOOV serve ace augmented reality graphics for BBC Sport at Wimbledon 2019
With broadcasters continuing to push boundaries with live AR and virtual sets, it’s no exaggeration to say that sports coverage has dramatically improved over the past few years. To stay ahead of the game, sport & events graphics company, MOOV have created stunning augmented reality graphics for the BBC’s studio coverage of the Wimbledon Championships, one of the most prestigious events in the tennis world. MOOV are using RT Software’s AR solution on a 3 camera (2 pedestals and 1 jib) setup which utilises the StarTracker camera tracking technology from Mo-Sys. This optical tracking system gathers reliable and highly-precise tracking data, enabling studio cameras to be moved when overlaying augmented graphics.

CP Communications and Carr-Hughes Productions Covers Multi-Venue CrossFit Games with Hybrid Broadcast and Production System
CP Communications, a leader in innovative solutions and services for complex live event productions, exhibited the full power of IP streaming and bonded cellular networking for live sports production at the 13th CrossFit Games, which represents the world championship event for the athletic competition. Contracted by Carr-Hughes Productions, CP Communications provided all content acquisition, networking and delivery services across all areas at the multi-venue, 20-acre Alliant Energy Center complex in Madison, Wisconsin. The complex includes an exhibition center, vendor pavilions, a sponsor’s row, a beer garden and an outdoor competition area – North Park Stadium – built specifically for this event.

Producing darts games on the highest level like the world championships will still be produced on the old fashioned way, with camera men, huge zoom lenses and a professional multi camera setup.” Explains Robbert van Loon, owner of Keytown Productions. “These are the large final tournaments that are being broadcasted regularly on international TV. But there’s also a large amount of smaller European tournaments at the PDC, the Professional Darts Federation. These events are called the European Tour Events. Next to these Eurotours there’s also the “DartShows” for the German television for which we do the production. All these tournaments are visited by a large crowd, and big names like Michael van Gerwen compete over there.”

Marshall Electronics’ Cameras Head to the Rodeo
Mason Goodchild, owner of Morsando Media, knew he needed a compact POV camera that could outlast the elements to film the Calgary Stampede. For the second year in a row, Marshall Electronics’ cameras captured high-octane footage of the rodeo to complement the broadcast. Marshall Electronics All-weather CV502-WP and CV503 Miniature HD camera were used for both the rodeo and the chuck wagon race coverage. In addition to the Calgary Stampede, Goodchild also uses his Marshall cameras for several events at Spruce Meadows, which hosts an array of international equestrian events throughout the year.

Rock Legends Brought to the Big Screen with Blackmagic Design
This year’s Sweden Rock festival in Sölvesborg saw crowds of 35,000 rocking out to huge names including KISS, Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Def Leppard. An end to end solution for live production comprising Ursa cameras, Atem Television Studio Pro 4K and Smart Videohub 40x40 handled video requirements including IMAG production on the festival’s two main stages. Soundforce Scandinavia worked with live specialist Cloud Production to design two identical PPU systems, with Digital Video Tools in Sweden suppling the hardware. “We had discussed a central production hub, however the scale and distances between stages, combined with the packed lineups meant that two independent systems provided a more practical solution,” explains Ulric Flood, Cloud Production.

CPL Enjoys the Arcadia Pangea Vibes at Glasto
While 200,000 festival goers enjoyed glorious weather, sizzling temperatures and another stellar line-up of music and art at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, the buzzword on everyone’s lips was ‘Pangea’. “A primordial world of infinite possibility” promised the latest immersive AV, lighting, sonic and pyro fuelled adventure created by Arcadia Spectacular under the artistic direction of Pip Rush and Bert Cole, and the spectacle produced around the magnificent 50 metre crane structure towering above the Arcadia area didn’t disappoint! Technical production specialist CPL was delighted to continue its working relationship with Arcadia by supplying 6 x Barco UDX-4K32 projectors with fibre optic signal and control infrastructure for 360-degree projections that were integral to the show based around the magnificent 140 tonne centrepiece of Pangea. Arcadia celebrated its 10th year at Glastonbury, having previously implanted their giant 50 tonne spider stage in the hearts and minds of fans for the best part of a decade in an ongoing quest to offer a totally different festival going experience!

Love is in the Air for Riedel’s Artist Intercom at the Electric Love Festival in Austria
Riedel Communications supplied an extensive Artist-based communications backbone and provided on-site support for the Electric Love Festival, held in Austria July 4-6. Integrated with the Artist infrastructure, a Bolero wireless intercom system ensured clear communications for all mobile staff before, during, and after the four-day event. The festival, which has been held at the Salzburgring race course since 2013, is one of the largest electronic dance music events in Europe, this year hosting over 180,000 visitors and featuring nearly 160 artists. Revolution Event GmbH, an Austrian-based full-service event management company, partnered with Riedel to ensure a smooth production. Throughout the four-day event, the Bolero wireless intercom provided clear and reliable communications for all mobile staff including sound, camera, and lighting crews and the show management team. Revolution Event deployed nearly 50 Bolero beltpacks to crew members, with only eight Bolero antennas providing full coverage throughout the vast, 18,500-square-meter venue. Bolero’s ability to integrate easily and seamlessly with Artist components, including frames, keypanels, and SmartPanels, was a huge asset.

Lady Gaga Doubles Down in Las Vegas Residencies with L-ISA Technology
With nine GRAMMY Awards and three Brit Awards to her name, plus both an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for “Shallow” from 2018’s A Star is Born, Lady Gaga is a multi-faceted superstar entertainer. Few contemporary musical artists possess her genre-bending creative vision and tireless performance drive. So it probably should have come as little surprise when, at the turn of the year, she kicked off not one, but two, multi-year Las Vegas residencies at Park Theater at Park MGM, both of which are presented in L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound technology from L-Acoustics. Lady Gaga’s first show, Enigma, which has now completed 18 sold-out performances to rave reviews, is a nonstop, eye-popping spectacle taking its 5,200 audience members on a full-throttle, futuristic odyssey through two hours of her club classics like “Poker Face,” “Paparazzi” and “Born This Way.” Backed up by a tight five-piece band and a dozen dancers, Gaga rarely takes a breather during the show, owning the Park Theater’s 135-foot-wide stage, and even flying over the audience at several points.
