GRAVITY MEDIA TAKES OVER STAGE 5 AT MELBOURNE’S DOCKLANDS STUDIOS
A key attraction with Stage 5 is its location, just five minutes from the centre of Melbourne, which is widely considered the screen and arts capital of Australia. The facility is ideal for all types of productions. It can hold an audience of up to 400 people and has many of the features of a traditional television studio with a sound attenuation of 50dB(a), motorised lighting hoists, silent air-conditioning and a super flat epoxy floor for camera pedestals. It also comes with eight dressing rooms, an audience holding area and production space. Gravity Media has also invested in technology to equip purpose-built control rooms to service the requirements of the productions within and remote from this facility. Stage 5 has previously been used to host productions including The Footy Show, Millionaire Hotseat, Talking about your Generation and Q&A.
CTV Vancouver Island Brings Sony’s HXC-FB80 HD Studio Cameras On Board
The true-to-life color reproduction was the first thing CTV staff noticed about the Sony cameras’ performance. “It just pops on screen. The difference was immediate. We even got a few phone calls from viewers congratulating us on our new HD changeover,” said Lancaster. “The color matching was excellent,” reported Kirk Duncan, multi-skilled journalist, CTV Vancouver. “There was barely any difference between the two camera settings and looks. Out of the box, they looked the same. That was my favorite thing about our new cameras – the ease with which they were set up and ready to go. We went through and adjusted what we needed to change without additional assistance. Everything really did look great right out of the box.”
Digital Video Installs Calrec Into WSLS New Broadcast Studio
“We typically spec Calrec for our high-end installations because the company offers great support as well as quality equipment,” says Alex Martin, CEO, Digital Video Group. “We went with the Calrec Brio 12 because we knew it would act as a bridge between the studio’s analog equipment and digital gear. Since the system and the production control room are automated, a large traditional audio mixer wasn’t required for this project.” While the focus was on automation, the Brio gives the studio a physical interface where users can manually operate it, if required. The fact that the Brio can use both MADI and Dante was also an important capability for the WSLS project. Installing the Calrec console, using multi-channel digital audio with a Ross router, expedited setup and required less than six cables, where it was once necessary to use dozens.

When Spectra, the venue management and operator of the Iowa Events Center (Des Moines, Iowa), decided it was time to update the sound system in the Wells Fargo Arena, they opted to work with Daktronics on a design-build basis. The project was led by David Sturzenbecher, applications engineer in the Audio Systems division of Daktronics. The physical installation was managed by Daktronics Field Engineer Thijs Hammink.

LarMac LIVE delivers Saudi Arabia’s biggest ever EDM festival
Spread over five stages – ranging from the 2,000-capacity Saudi Beast to the 45,000-capacity Big Beast – the festival was held on a piece of ‘blank canvas’ land just outside the capital city. The country has very limited technical entertainment resources, so LarMac LIVE coordinated the site-wide production and artist management effort with a streamlined pool of trusted suppliers. “We actually ended up simplifying our supply chain as much as possible in partnership with Sela, locally assisting with procurement,” revealed Greenway. “PRG very quickly became the go-to company for lights and video, with audio equipment coming out of their German office. This was a real no brainer, primarily because we were using a lot of very few fixtures - it’s EDM after all - and so sourcing the assets was a huge factor in this decision. PRG also comes with a support structure and a special projects team like no other.”

The festival, known as Les Dunes Electroniques, is organised by the team behind Plages Electroniques in the French Riviera, and has been touted as the event to put Tunisia on the global festival map.
