Sir David Attenborough to receive IBC 2011 International Honour for Excellence
The winner of the IBC2011 International Honour for Excellence is Sir David Attenborough, in recognition of his remarkable career in television and, in particular, natural history. His career spans almost 60 years, with his Atlantic Productions documentary Flying Monsters 3D with Sir David Attenborough one of the most acclaimed programmes commissioned by Sky 3D. The International Honour for Excellence is the highest award which IBC bestows. It is presented to individuals and organisations which have taken the best technology available – and driven technology forward – to create the finest broadcasting content.

Steve Schklair, noted stereoscopic 3D expert, founder, and CEO of 3ality Digital, a U.S. based S3D technology company, will speak on Monday, September 12, at 1:30pm in the RAI Big Screen Auditorium during the 2011 IBC event. His presentation entitled, “The reports of S3D’s death have been greatly exaggerated,” is set to discuss the future of S3D as a genre that exceeds traditional use in big action films and that will take up permanent residence in homes around the globe. Schklair’s key-note presentation will focus on integrating S3D automation as a way to significantly lower production costs and enhance production quality. Highlights include Schklair conducting a live demonstration of new technologies that will forever advance and change the look of S3D production.

Broadcast Solutions
This year again Broadcast Solutions will show some of the latest state of the art broadcast vehicles as well as brand new exciting Satcom and broadcast products at our exhibition booth OE110 (outside broadcast area near the main entrance in front of Hall 1-6). Broadcast Solutions GmbH delivered end of June 2011 a 16-camera HD OB truck to KBS (Korean Broadcasting Systems), the largest TV station and production service provider in South Korea. The project was realized by Broadcast Solutions GmbH as a general contractor in close cooperation with the Korean partner Dong Yang Digital Co. Ltd., planning and commissioning was supervised by WIREWORX GmbH. The production period between order and delivery was 8 months. KBS will use the vehicle for the first time at the 13th IAAF World Athletics Championships from 27 August to 4 September 2011 in Daegu/South Korea as host broadcaster.

Camera Corps
Camera Corps Ltd, a world leader in providing robotic camera systems for live television and coverage of major sports events, announces a major addition to the feature set of its Q-Ball compact remote pan/tilt/zoom HD/SD camera. “The hugely popular Q-Ball has now been improved to include the one thing many customers have been requesting,” comments Jim Daniels, Technical Director of Camera Corps. “It can now store up to 18 preset pan, tilt, zoom and focus positions when used with our large PTZF switcher and joystick control unit. This enables an operator to store and recall camera shots and to switch rapidly from one to another. The advantages in terms of production efficiency and creative versatility are enormous. Settings are stored in non-volatile RAM within the head so are retained even after a system is powered down between sessions. We will be demonstrating the system on Stand 10.C49 throughout IBC2011.”

Cel-Soft returns to IBC in September. Exhibiting in Hall 7, stand K01-F, the company will introduce Version 1.4 of the Cel-Scope3D stereoscopic signal analyser. Designed for use in 3D grading, quality-control, postproduction and for 3D camera set-up, Cel-Scope3D stereoscopic signal analysers provide operators with a wide choice of display configurations. Version 1.4 incorporates a novel depth spectrogram which plots all depth activity and excursions against time. “Even better than a depth chart, the new depth spectrogram enables an operator to see if the 3D is approaching acceptable limits or is jumping around too much for comfort,” explains Cel-Soft Managing Director Robin Palmer. “Cel-Scope3D 1.4 also features an enhanced logging option which provides a complete reporting function summarising a production or clip's ability to meet broadcast standards or suitability for public performance.

The electronic routing switches 8 input signals to 24 outputs. The trough connection is made by bistable 2-pole relays, thus fully transparent connection is ensured. An input signal may be switched to several outputs (signal distribution). The bandwidth is 13 MHz and allows transmission of all types of signals (DC signals up to 13 MHz). Thus the application range of this router is very large, there are many possible applications.

JVC
JVC’s range of professional camcorders and monitors – already widely used throughout the broadcast and post industries – will be at IBC this year, along with many new advances in 3D and 4K technology. JVC’s prototype 4K camera uses the world’s first large-scale integration (LSI) chip for high-speed processing of high definition video; this technology will be an integral part of the next generation of JVC camcorders. Also on the JVC stand will be its first professional 3D camcorder – the GY-HMZ1. This features an integrated 3D twin lens design, enabling simultaneous recording of left and right images in full 1920 x 1080 resolution. There’s a new 32” 3D display for medical and broadcast use, a 24” 3D production monitor and an upgraded IF-2D3D1 image processor, now with the ability to control both positive and negative parallax. There are also additions to the DT-V range of professional production monitors, with two new 17” and two new 21” monitors.

Sisvel Technology's 3D Tile Format is a technology offering significant advantages over current 3D transmission methods. wTVision will be present, once again, in IBC with its Real-time Broadcast Graphics solutions and playout automation systems on the company’s booth (3.C61). The exhibit focus will be the iPad integration as a Human Interaction Technology and User Interface (HITUI) to remotely control broadcast graphics, a 3D stereoscopic showreel and sports turn-key products such as football, surf and motorsports. wTVision’s booth will have several stations were the company’s products will be displayed. The main themes covered will be Sports, Elections, Studio Programs and Playout Automation. The Elections station will give to visitors an insight about our new interactive technologies integrated by wTVision such as iPads, serving as a mobile device to control on-air graphics. The new edition of "that's LIVE" is now shipping to our subscribers and will be available at IBC for sale at the LIVE-Production both #38 located on the walkway between hall 8 and hall 9. "that's LIVE" covers the Eurovision Song Contest, Wimbledon in 3D, the 3D production of the German "Bundesliga", the coverage of the Scorpions concert in 3D and many more.
