Cooperation continues

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU)* and the International Biathlon Union (IBU) have reached an agreement to prolong their cooperation for the worldwide media rights. The agreement covers the four (4), upcoming seasons (2010–2014) of the IBU Biathlon World Cups, the IBU World Championships, as well as other events.

A fruitful cooperation

This agreement extends a fruitful cooperation and guarantees free access to these competitions to European audiences.

EBU Director General Ingrid Deltenre expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the discussions "We are delighted to have four more years of cooperation with the IBU ahead of us. We have worked together to make Biathlon a unique success story in the media and sports marketplace. The IBU's professionalism combined with the TV production skills and expertise of the EBU and its Members have developed the sport into a unique and exciting television experience".

The EBU

The EBU serves 125 national media organizations from 56 countries in and around Europe. It represents its Members and promotes the values and distinctiveness of public service media in Europe and around the world. The Eurovision and Euroradio networks deliver news, sports, events and music to EBU Members and other media organizations. Services to Members range from legal advice, technical standardization and development to co-production and exchange of quality European content.

TV audience doubled in the last eight years and the number of hours broadcast leapt from 255 hours in 1999/2000 to 1,145 hours last season.
