NUSSLI receives planning and delivery order for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes Place every Year in August

NUSSLI, a globally operating supplier of temporary event infrastructures, has received the contract for the planning and construction of the grandstand facility for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2011 and 2012. The company signed an agreement with the general contractor Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd. The world's most famous military music festival, located in front of the Edinburgh Castle, takes place every year in August.

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is the largest Scottish musical festival. Ever since 1950, it is held each year in August in front of Edinburgh Castle – on the "Esplanade" plaza. Every year, 217,000 visitors come to the Scotch capital to marvel at the military parade. For the event held in August 2011 and 2012, NUSSLI has been commissioned by the general contractor Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd (SRM) with the planning, delivery, and initial installation of the grandstand facility for 8,700 spectators. The contract for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo also comprises the installation of numerous containers for hygienic facilities, technical rooms, actors' chambers, and the hospitality area. NUSSLI is qualified for the job due to their expertise as a globally operating provider of temporary event structures for major events in the cultural and sports sectors.

To complete the grandstand facility, the event constructor will have 40 workers install 700 tons of steel for the supporting structure in a period of 7 weeks. NUSSLI thereby cuts building time in half in comparison to the installation of existing grandstand facilities. "The facility is planned as a permanent construction. That means that piles and foundations will be built and the event infrastructures will be constructed in compliance with the existing standards for permanent structures", reports NUSSLI project manager Stefan Helfenstein.

"We are convinced that NUSSLI is the right partner for the planning and installation of the grandstand facility", comments Boyd McFee, Director at SRM on the signing of the contract. SRM is responsible for the overall project direction for The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. In the context of sustainability and in order to keep the stream of visitors flowing in Edinburgh Castle, NUSSLI will dismantle the temporary event infrastructures at the end of each venue.
