ve Coverage of 2018 Tony Awards® Driven by Ross Robotics

Ross continues its association with the annual theater awards - Furio robotics provide dynamic and consistent camera moves

Presented by The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing, the Tony Awards® recognise excellence in Broadway theatre and are the highlight of the year for everyone working on and behind Manhattan’s famous stages. This year’s star-studded ceremony – the 72nd since the awards began in 1947 – will be held and broadcast live round the world from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 10th. Following last year’s highly-complimented coverage, Ross Video is again supplying its robotics solution for the live event, with the Furio dolly taking its place at the front of the theater to cover all the action.

Commenting on the awards, Bob Muller, Technical Manager for this year’s ceremony, praises the Furio’s impact on the look and feel of the coverage. “Not only is the Furio a beautiful looking robot, but it has the lowest starting lens height of any telescoping column on a remote dolly in its class. This allows us to hide the camera behind the first row of seats at the foot of the stage, and then lift the camera above the attendees’ heads to capture smooth and beautiful images while in motion. After reviewing options that are currently available, this was the one machine that could provide what we needed. It was a success for us in 2017, and we are glad to repeat the performance again this year. The Furio dolly and our viewers at home will have the best seat in the house!”

Bruce Takasaki, Ross Video’s Product Manager for Robotics and Cameras, is proud of the company’s relationship with the Tony Awards. “Ross helps drive many of the world’s most prestigious live events and we’re committed to providing content creators with powerful tools that perform. Our robotic solutions open up new creative options with smooth dolly shots and dynamic angles that would not be possible otherwise. We’re therefore delighted that the technical team have again chosen Furio to capture an event synonymous with excellence”.
