Iconic “Karate Kid” Film Premieres in London

Sony Professional’s 4K Digital Projection System will do the Job

At today’s UK Gala Premiere of Sony Pictures’ The Karate Kid, guests will take pleasure in watching the highly anticipated film using Sony Professional’s state-of-the-art Sony Digital Cinema 4K projection system. Featuring more than four times the resolution of traditional Full-HD systems, the 4K system has been installed at the famous Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square.

The film centres on the story of Dre Parker, a 12-year old who moves with his mother from Detroit to China. After making a connection with his new classmate Mei Ying, Dre makes enemies with the class bully, Cheng. Dre knows only a little karate, and in the land of kung fu, Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre turns to the maintenance man Mr. Han, a secret master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realises that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

As the world’s only manufacturer of commercially available 4K resolution digital cinema projectors, Sony Professional was selected by the studio to supply an end-to-end solution capable of providing viewers with a superior visual experience. The Sony Digital Cinema 4K projection system used for the screening comprised of Sony Professional’s SRX-R320 Digital Cinema Projector, LMT-300 Media Block and LSM-100 Screen Management System software.

In addition to the premiere, The Karate Kid will also be released to theatres worldwide as a 4K Digital Cinema Package.
