TV 2 Norway Upgrades Picture Quality with Technology from Sony

TV 2 Norway selects camera solution from Sony Professional

TV 2 was one of the first Norwegian television channels to broadcast in HD. Now, using camera solutions from Sony Professional, it is raising the picture quality of its productions even higher, while also aiming to future-proof its studios.

TV 2 operates from two main production centres in Bergen and Oslo, offering a wide range of news, current affairs, sports and entertainment programmes. Over the past few years, TV 2 has expanded through the launch of new channels and an increased investment in sport. The channel was one of the first in Norway to offer broadcasts in HD, and is now taking an important step in preparing for further HD production through the acquisition of studio technology from Sony Professional.

"As part of improving the technical quality of our productions, we needed to replace the cameras in our multi-purpose studio in Oslo and our sports studio in Bergen," said John Inge Brattetveit, CTO of TV 2 Norway.

In the summer of 2010, TV 2 invested in the 3G specified Sony MVS vision mixer with HDC cameras for its new Premier League studio in Bergen. This summer, TV 2 has upgraded its studios in both Bergen and Oslo with 15 Sony HDC-1500RD 3G-ready camera chains and 6 HDC-P1 cameras. In addition to the new camera systems, TV 2 has purchased a number of Sony's new OLED monitors. With its choice of technology, TV 2 has taken a major step forwards in preparing its studio facilities for the next generation of HD production.

TV 2 conducted a thorough evaluation of camera solutions from a range of suppliers before selecting Sony. Factors such as picture quality, ease of use, reliability and commercial considerations were reviewed by a diverse expert team from TV 2.

"The choice of camera solution is an important and long-term decision on our part. Sony came out on top after a comprehensive evaluation. We use a mix of manned and remotely operated cameras, and Sony's portfolio of equipment gave us the opportunity to meet our needs in an optimal way", said John Inge Brattetveit.

The new camera solution from Sony has given TV 2 a boost in image quality in some of its most important productions, and taken the channel several steps towards full HD production in the studios involved.
