Trilogy Communications, a global provider of intercom systems and Master Reference Generators to the broadcast industry, today announced the release of the version four software upgrade for its market leading Mentor XL Master Reference Generator. This follows the introduction in 2010 of the 3G HD-SDI option and increases its already comprehensive functionality yet further.

Extending Mentor XL’s timecode functionality, SD, HD and 3G test patterns are now equipped with the ability to position a display of Linear Timecode (LTC) within the picture area, thereby removing the need for separate timecode displays in some areas of a TV facility. In addition, all of Mentor’s timecode outputs can now be synchronised to the Vertical Interval TimeCode (VITC) recovered from the genlock video input, allowing the LTC and VITC outputs to be locked to the incoming time information. This obviates the need to have a separate timecode distribution system.

Mentor’s remote configuration utility, Vector, allows users to monitor status, configure and store all system parameters over a standard IP network. For additional versatility, Vector is now browser based with the ability to manage upgrades of the system firmware and software options. Available as an upgrade for all existing users, Vector will be included as standard with all Mentor XLs from February 2011 onwards.

Audio facilities available to the operator have also been enhanced with the inclusion of the ability to modulate 16 embedded audio channels, each with a separate tone.

Barry Spencer, General Manager – Broadcast, said: “With the increased functionality unlocked by the version four software upgrade, we firmly believe that Mentor XL is now ‘best in class’. It combines a comprehensive feature set and flexible design whilst not compromising on its enviable reputation for reliability.”
