Tainted Blue Studio Continues Tradition Of Excellence With Full AKG Recording Line
posted:
Nearly five years ago, owner Andrew Koss purchased the studio space to give artists an “Abbey Road“-type feeling while recording. “The idea behind Tainted Blue was to have a state-of-the-art facility, with laid-back, yet reliable and professional service,” stated Koss. “The artists recording here enjoy the feel of our studio and choose us for specific technical reasons. We have dedicated engineers, great sound, an accommodating atmosphere and the best equipment. It’s all about making the customer comfortable.”
Tainted Blue boasts an AKG C 12 VR Tube, C 451 B’s, a C 414 XLS and a C 414 LX II, all of which serve multiple purposes depending on the artists and band pieces. “Our mics are work horses,” continued Koss. “We use the 414’s on nearly every instrument we track from strings and horns to guitars, but the 451’s are our go-to for acoustic guitars, drums and piano. The C12 is just unbelievable and we prefer it on lead vocals especially for jazz recordings, even though it can handle much more.”

Koss’ studio has played host to a variety of artists including Paul McCartney, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Fabolous, Mariah Carey, Boys Like Girls, as well as up-and-coming artists such as Drum Addicts. The studio also participates in a national consolidated production school program where students attend recording sessions over a three-month period for hands-on experience with recording and mixing.
“We are passionate about our clients and the students we bring into the studio,” said Koss. “With the AKG equipment and our commitment to perfection, we create an inspiring environment in which any artist can feel comfortable.”
