Snell's Groundbreaking New Kahuna 360 Production Switcher Nets Key Industry Awards at 2010 NAB Show

Kahuna 360 Production Switcher

Snell today announced that its new Kahuna 360 received a Broadcast Engineering Pick Hit Award and a TV Technology STAR Award at the 2010 NAB Show. Launched at the show, the Kahuna 360 is a revolutionary production switcher platform that breaks away from the tradition of fixed M/Es, fixed resources, and fixed formats while supporting 16 simultaneous broadcast productions in a single mainframe — an industry first.

Sponsored by Broadcast Engineering magazine, the Pick Hit Awards are chosen by a panel of independent judges who toured the NAB show floor for three days, looking for innovative products and technologies. The judges then met to make their selections based on several criteria, including the technical and financial improvements the product can bring to a facility's operation. Pick Hit winners are judged to have a positive impact on the intended user's everyday work, offer substantial improvement over previous technology, and feature a price point within the reach of the intended users.

TV Technology magazine's STAR Award honors and showcases the outstanding technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. A panel of TV Technology editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award nominees.

"For the Kahuna 360 to win two such prestigious and highly visible awards, and so soon after its launch to the industry, is very clear validation of its tremendous potential to re-engineer the way operators approach their most demanding production requirements. With its unprecedented switcher flexibility and scalability, Kahuna 360 gives these operators all the functionality they need to target a broader audience over a greater number of distribution platforms," said Simon Derry, CEO of Snell. "These awards reflect Snell's heritage as the industry leader in image processing, and our commitment to continue to develop revolutionary broadcasting solutions that offer unmatched capabilities and image quality."
