SMPTE Forum On Emerging Technologies To Feature Grass Valley CEO and Sports Video Group Editorial Director

Bringing together leading motion-imaging technologists, researchers, scientists, manufacturers, and strategic thinkers

The Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers (SMPTE) announced that Grass Valley CEO Alain Andreoli will join a distinguished panel of industry leaders to discuss the future of acquisition, production, post-production and distribution technologies, while Ken Kerschbaumer, the editorial director of the Sports Video Group (SVG) will join a distinguished panel of industry leaders to discuss the 10-15 year investment trajectories for key programming technologies at the SMPTE Forum on Emerging Media Technologies, an executive-level symposium to be held by the Society 13 – 15 May in Geneva and produced in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Andreoli will be part of The Forum panel “More Than Clouds On The Horizon,” where industry thought leaders will discuss their companies’ vision for content production and delivery against the backdrop of pervasive and rapidly evolving media and entertainment industry drivers, including IT-based production and cloud deployments.

“Grass Valley is a long-time technology leader within the media and entertainment industries and has a deep understanding of what companies in those sectors need to succeed for the long term. We are thrilled to have Alain share those insights at The SMPTE Forum,” said David Wood of the EBU and the chair of the symposium’s program committee.

Kerschbaumer will be part of The Forum panel “Pulling It All Together,” which will discuss what media organizations should do now to prepare for success in the next 10-15 years – from having the right balance of creative and digital skills and end-to-end digital workflows required to support their value chains to identifying the right trajectory for long-term investments.

“With an advisory board that includes the world’s leading sports networks, leagues, and collegiate institutions, SVG is at the heart of the discussions among manufacturers, suppliers, and technology developers about how to improve the quality and profitability of sports programming,” said David Wood of the EBU and the chair of the symposium’s program committee. “We’re delighted to have Ken bring that critical perspective to The SMPTE Forum.”

The SMPTE Forum on Emerging Media technologies is the only symposium to bring together leading motion-imaging technologists, researchers, scientists, practitioners, manufacturers, and strategic thinkers. Over course of two days, it will provide a science-based, non-commercial opportunity for executives and other senior leaders from the broadcast, broadband, and cinema industries to discuss the most important and innovative research taking place over the next 10-15 years, with a particular focus on technologies likely to come to market within the next three years. All in an environment designed for easy networking.
