Ross Video and Gearhouse Broadcast: Students Get Real-World Experience with openTruck

The compact HD Mobile Production Unit has been at Exeter University, helping students learn how cover college rugby

Ross Video has announced that its innovative openTruckTM platform was recently taken to Exeter University in partnership with Gearhouse Broadcast, a leading systems integrator of broadcast and media solutions. The objective was to give the students of Exeter University the chance to cover their own college rugby event using the industry’s most up to date OB technology within the Ross branded OB Lite trailer.

Leading the team pitch-side for the student training was Ross Video’s own Ian Futter, an industry veteran of live production and OB sports:
“It has been a great opportunity to work with the young talent at Exeter University this week and to show them how an OB sports production works in the real world. The students have all been fantastic to work with and it was great to see them getting to grips with the Ross technology so easily,” said Ian. “We at Ross are very keen to work with today’s students as we are building technology for their tomorrow. It is important to help and support young talent, and it always feels nice to give something back to the industry in this way”.

While the quality of the rugby at Exeter may not have been up to that of the six nations, at least the students got the chance to create a premier production worthy of any major broadcaster.
