P+S TECHNIK Offers New WEISSCAM HS-2 MKII Application Upgrade Modules

Germany-based P+S TECHNIK has developed new software-based Application Upgrade Modules for its multi-purpose camera HS-2 MKII. With a capability of shooting from 1 fps to over 70.000 fps (100x100px) and its range of modes for different applications it is considered by many to be the most flexible and effective digital cinema camera.
There are three new Application Upgrade Modules available:
1. Film Mode Module – “Ultimate Image Quality”
The Film Mode provides enhanced “ultimate” image quality for recording at any frame rate from 1 fps for time lapse to standard speed rates (24p/25p/29.97p/30p) and high speed rates up to 2200 fps in 720p. This mode optimizes the camera settings for purposes such as fiction, commercial, documentary and TV Drama as it significantly enhances and stabilizes blacks and low light areas constantly. There is no need for manual dark reference adjustment anymore.
With the new Film Mode, users can take advantage of the following new features:
- Wider scope of application for quality sensitive film production
- 30 percent better performance on the signal, especially on lower frame rates (24/25/30) and lower high speed rates
- Reduced readout noise- Increased dynamic range

2. Studio Mode Module – External IT Recording Mode
The Studio Mode allows for the integration of the WEISSCAM HS-2 MKII directly into studio environments. It provides RAW support for external IT recording devices such as workstations in studio environments via GigE. During recording and playback from the camera RAM HD-SDI preview is available. The workflow in film studios takes advantage of the following new features:
- Easy set up and control of the camera via Hand Unit
- HD Preview possibility via HDSDI (on Monitor)
- HD Recording possibility via HDSDI (on external HD-SDI recorder)
3. Rental Mode Module – Scalable “All Purpose” Camera
The Rental Mode offers the possibility to modify the WEISSCAM HS-2 MKII to the needs of rental customers. This raises the rent-out efficiency of the camera. Customer can choose from three different presets depending on their needs. By providing different sets of features for different applications such as fiction, commercial, TV Drama and others, rental companies are capable to rent out the HS-2 MKII for different daily or weekly charges. All feature sets can be changed and unlocked on set by entering a PIN-Code. The following three presets are available with the Rental Mode:
Commercial:
- Up to 4400fps
- RAW & HD workflow options
- Up to 2K resolution
- Film Mode (if activated)
- Dark Reference (not in combination with Film Mode)
Fiction:
- Up to 500fps
- RAW & HD workflow options
- Up to 2K resolution- Film Mode (if activated)
- Dark Reference
TV Drama:
- Up to 120fps
- RAW & HD workflow options
