Polecam Reports High Interest in Affordable 3D Production Systems at BVE 2011

"A lot of visitors to our stand wanted to discuss and try out 3D production kit," comments Polecam founder and Managing Director Steffan Hewitt. People who prefer to watch in 2D, perhaps because of a dominant right or left eye, will simply switch the 3D mode off. Once you have seen and enjoyed good 3D, the limitations of 2D become increasingly evident. The message we are giving the market is that 3D production does not have to be complicated, costly or cumbersome. The Polecam approach allows highly dynamic 3D programmes to be created just as easily as 2D, capturing to a synchronised pair of solid-state recorders only a fraction larger than our ultra-compact cameras. We talked to people from all the major British television networks, a lot of existing Polecam owner-operators, media specialists from some of the largest universities and a significant number from the medical sector. BVE 2011 was notable as a show where visitors were in serious investment mode rather than just exploring. There was huge interest in our new GoalCam and StadiumCam system which allows highly efficient outside broadcast coverage of sports such as football. It consists of three elements: one camera for each goal plus an ultra-wide-angle camera capable of televising the entire stadium. The system can be used on its own or in conjunction with one or more Polecam rigs to support a large-scale OB. At a push, it can even do the entire job."
