Newtec's DualFlow™ in Touch With Broadcasting Reality at IBC 2010
Newtec's DualFlow allows broadcasters to migrate towards IP satellite operations while retaining compatibility with traditional tape-based environments. DualFlow modulation products support both ASI and GbE (Gigabit Ethernet) interfaces in the same unit, which allows operators to continue service for clients using ASI and cater to clients already converted to IP operations. In short, broadcasters can choose when to make the switch to IP and how they spread the investment load during the transition period.
DualFlow presents broadcasters with the ability to transport simultaneous live broadcasting and data over the satellite link in the same carrier. Additionally, DualFlow enables two-way connectivity over satellite, introducing new interactive services (VoIP, Web browsing, file transfer, translation and comments to news items) to boost productivity. DualFlow is available on Newtec's Azimuth satellite broadcasting modulation equipment.
"Regardless of where a broadcaster is on the IP migration path, Newtec modulation equipment with the DualFlow features assures a flexible, cost-efficient and future-proof alternative for satellite broadcasting transmissions," says Koen Willems, Product Marketing Director of Newtec.
DualFlow increases the productivity of remote teams and gives broadcasters a competitive edge in offering instant live coverage of major events. Interactive services can be performed completely over satellite without the need for terrestrial communication links.
"The DualFlow technology answers a very practical need broadcasters have in today's transitional environment," says Serge Van Herck, CEO of Newtec. "Major operational and infrastructure changes always present a challenge in terms of investment and compatibility, with the issue of timing being a difficult one to get right. But with DualFlow, these decisions are much easier to make; the timing of investment and of the transition from ASI to IP is entirely in the hands of the broadcaster, who can ‘say when' to undertake each stage of the process."
DualFlow has been nominated for the "Best satellite contribution/distribution/transmission solution" category for the 2010 CSI Awards. The benefits of DualFlow and the DualFlow migration strategy are explained in detail at
