New HD OBVan Depends on Trilogy Timing

.

Probably the largest single exhibit at IBC 2012 will be the new ATM HD2 OB Truck on Sony’s Outdoor Exhibition stand (12.OE100). Trilogy Broadcast, leading provider of broadcast infrastructure and intercom technology, provided a critical element of its technology: the reference timing for both linear video and audio and for the IP networks for its file-based storage.

Built by coachbuilder Autokontener, and the broadcast equipment supplied and integrated by 4Vision on behalf of Polish production company ATM, the designers of the truck specified Trilogy Mentor XL as the only SPG to support 1080p.  This product with a full complement of options, including GPS locking, dual redundant power supplies and the Watchdog seamless changeover unit, ensures the reference timing is highly resilient. The truck is designed to support SD, HD and 3Gb/s production, and the Mentor XL provides all timing references required for every standard, including four independently timed tri-level sync signals allowing the truck to be able to work in multiple HD formats simultaneously.

4Vision completed the installation in a record four months highlighting not only the correct choice of equipment for the OB, but also showcased the expertise and knowledge of project planning and running.

“Systems engineers specifying outside broadcast trucks are faced with saving weight and space wherever possible, but at the same time ensuring absolute reliability because you never get a second take at a sports event,” said Barry Spencer, general manager of Trilogy Broadcast. “The great beauty of our Mentor XL system is that we can provide absolutely all the test and reference signals you need from a single box, with a second redundant unit and a high performance supervision and changeover device. Add in its ability to support SNMP monitoring – essential in this project – and we provide the complete solution in the smallest possible space.”

The Mentor XL and Watchdog equipment was supplied for the ATM truck by 4Vision, a Trilogy distributor in Warsaw, Poland. Trilogy’s range of SPGs and intercoms can be seen at IBC 2012 on stand 10.A29, and the truck itself is on outside exhibit area stand 12.OE100.
