Mediatec Invests in the Latest HD, 3G Technologies from Grass Valley

The recent additions will support a program to build 10 new OB vans

Mediatec, one of Europe’s most experienced outside broadcast corporations continues  to invest in the latest technology, setting itself apart with Grass Valley™ HD cameras and 3G transmission system.

As a long-time Grass Valley customer and well known for its production innovations, Mediatec has standardised on Grass Valley live production solutions for its outside broadcast trucks due to their reliability, power and multi-format flexibility, and has continued to add to its capabilities with new Grass Valley technologies over the last few years.

The recent additions will support a program to build 10 new OB vans. Mediatec selected the Grass Valley LDK 8000 Elite high-definition (HD) cameras thanks to their long lifespans, superb picture quality and familiarity to users. Combined with Grass Valley’s revolutionary fiber transmission system, the solution allows total flexibility, reliability and robustness in the field, as well as supporting Mediatec’s move towards a common fiber connectivity platform that is future-proofed by supporting 1080p50/60 acquisition.

In addition to standardising on Grass Valley cameras, Mediatec’s fleet of OB vans feature Grass Valley Kayak™ and Kayenne™ HD Video Production Center switchers, Trinix™ routers, Jupiter™ control interfaces, and GeckoFlex™ modular equipment for a complete solution to meet their diverse production needs.

“We cover the entire spectrum of outside broadcast, from ski races to royal weddings and on every job our Grass Valley cameras deliver outstanding pictures, even through adverse weather conditions,” said Paul Henriksen, Head of Mediatec Broadcast. “Our business continues to grow and we are committed to growing our capabilities with proven and dependable Grass Valley solutions.

“Mediatec has a strategic partnership with Grass Valley on camera technologies for remote production,” added Henriksen. “We see the potential in the use of dark fiber infrastructure to push down the cost for productions covering a vast area, like ski races, state occasions, multiple stadium events and more.”

Mediatec's credits include the Olympic Games in Sarajevo, Albertville, Athens and Beijing, The Wimbledon Championships, The Nobel Prize Awards and Tour de France. Mediatec served as main broadcast technology supplier to the host broadcaster for The Eurovision Song Contest, UEFA Cup Final and IIHF World Championships.

“This latest order adds to the continuing momentum for Grass Valley solutions across all types of live and studio HD productions. We are really pleased that Mediatec continues to place its reputation for excellence and innovative production in our hands,” said Alan Wright, Senior Vice President, Europe, Middle East, and Africa for Grass Valley.
