Media Links To Launch 4K IP Quick-Start Packages at IBC

Media Links, a market leader in solutions to transport broadcast media and data over IP has announced it will launch a series of 4K IP Quick Start Packages for the EMEA region at IBC 2016 with the aim of helping introduce broadcasters to the benefits of moving content over IP in a cost effective and flexible way.  The packages enable customers to take advantage of direct fibre or existing ethernet networks by using Media Links’ technology to compress 4K, HD or SD signals into a MPEG2 transport stream for visually lossless video and audio with minimal latency between source and destination.  Full details of the quick-start packages will be on show on booth 1.C31.

"Our job is to make life easy for our customers,” confirms John Smith, managing director for Media Links EMEA.  "For broadcasters considering unlocking the advantages of moving high value media content either over a local IP network or a wide area network, our 4K IP quick-start packages are the ideal solution.  They can be configured to particular specifications and are designed for flexible, cost effective deployment.  If required, upgrades can provide our hitless redundancy for mission critical signals to use an alternative fibre path in the event of failure to ensure the stream is recovered without interruption.”

"Our low cost quick-start 1x4K package is an entry level transport system capable of transporting 1x 4K-SDI stream at up to 1Gbp/s,” continues Smith.  "Trunk, power supply and redundancy is available on request.   Packages can be scaled up to 5x4K streams and tailored to match requirements.  These ‘off the peg‘ yet tailored solutions enable quick and effective entry into the world of video, audio and data over IP transport by allowing broadcasters to move content between facilities, plus they also have the potential to set broadcasters on the path to remote production over IP.

"In EMEA, until relatively recently, lack of last-mile bandwidth has prevented broadcasters moving significant volumes of content over IP,” explains Smith.  "However, with improved fibre connectivity suddenly this becomes an attractive proposition.  Media Links has been supplying a range of standards-based products that allow telecoms networks to transport live and pre-recorded signals efficiently and reliably for any type of broadcast application across the globe for 20 years.  Our staff participate and lead the teams responsible for the various standards required by carriers to move content successfully over wide area networks with proven 100% QoS using our true IP based products and hitless switching technology.  In 2014, Media Links was honored with a Technical & Engineering Emmy® Award for Standardization and Productization of JPEG2000 (J2K) Interoperability. ”

"Our clients have used Media Links’ technology for many applications to move video, audio and data, including remote production over IP for numerous major sporting events including World Cup Soccer and the Olympics, experiencing 100% uptime.   We are now working to bring together the world of telecoms and broadcast for the benefit of our EMEA clients moving content over IP.”
