Italy’s L’Opera Broadcast Video Service chooses Harris Corporation end-to-end infrastructure for new HD OBVan

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has provided the high-definition (HD) infrastructure technology to L’Opera Broadcast Video Service for its brand-new HD OB (Outside Broadcast) van, “OB 5 HD.” The latest addition to the L’Opera fleet, “OB 5 HD” will be parked in the outside broadcast area at IBC2009 as part of a busy European demonstration tour.

A 256x256 Harris® Platinum™ router is at the center of the new HD OB van and enables L’OPERA to handle 3 Gb/s signals. Integrated within the router is a Harris® CENTRIO™ multiviewer generating a composite of multiple videos, tally, UMD and audio metering. The space-saving router and multiviewer solution drives 14 LCD monitors throughout the OB van. “We chose the Platinum router and multiviewer solution because we know broadcast teams need a great deal of flexibility when working with multiple camera positions on the video monitors,” said Michele Infante, marketing director at L’Opera. ”The compact Harris multiformat output solution, which combines router and multiviewer capabilities, offers maximum flexibility in a small footprint.” The truck is also equipped with a Harris Videotek® VTM-4100 advanced audio/HD video test tool for broadcast quality control; two Harris X75™ all-in-one processors for up/down/cross conversion; Harris 6800+™ advanced core processing platform modules for auto-sensing SD/HD audio multiplexing; the Harris Inscriber® TitleOne™ broadcast production and graphics system, which delivers sophisticated titles, graphics and high-level digital effects; and Harris CCS Navigator™, for centralized equipment configuration and setup.

The Spanish GT Championship, the FIA Formula Two Championship and the European F3 Open Championship.

“The Harris solution provides us with an integrated end-to-end HD infrastructure, turning the latest addition to our fleet into a true HD production center,” Infante continued. “The entire vehicle is designed to the highest standards, right down to the interior design, which was handled with great care to ensure maximum comfort of the crew.” At IBC2009, visitors can come on-board “OB 5 HD” and see live HD production in action. The truck will then continue on a busy 2009/2010 schedule that will include the Spanish GT Championship, the FIA Formula Two Championship and the European F3 Open Championship. “We are delighted to facilitate the attendance of L’Opera at IBC2009 with their brand-new truck, as this is a great opportunity for visitors to see how Harris technology truly enables live HD production for outside broadcasters,” said Richard Scott, vice president, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) operations, Harris Broadcast Communications.
