Interior design for new MediaCorp broadcasting centre by Qvest Media

Qvest Media takes over responsibility for technical area planning and interior design for new MediaCorp broadcasting centre

Around three years ago, MediaCorp, a leading media group in the APAC region, commissioned Qvest Media as a consultant and master systems integrator to implement its new broadcasting centre in Mediapolis – One North. In addition to transferring overall responsibility for planning and integrating the broadcasting equipment, MediaCorp also entrusted Qvest Media systems architects with the technical area planning for the new building and the associated design of highly-innovative, functional furniture.

In order to equip the new broadcasting centre according to leading-edge standards for modern and collaborative work, Qvest Media coordinated the technical equipment, fittings and technical interior design to closely match the existing building architecture. For this purpose, the systems architect analysed the space requirements for individual workplaces and determined the communication structures for the optimum realisation of lines of view, room connections, workflows and short distances together with the responsible MediaCorp teams and users. Furthermore, Qvest Media assisted the media group with topics like acoustics, lighting concepts, air conditioning, power supply and the inventory of technical equipment rooms.

Qvest Media prepared a requirements specification as the first step in equipping the workplaces of the new media centre and then used this as the basis for planning how to use the space. In the course of this work, the company cooperated with their partner Lund Halsey, specialists in ergonomic control room and studio furniture, to plan most of the workplace furniture required to equip the production facilities. 111 items of custom-made studio and direction room furniture are currently being produced to accommodate the technical operating equipment, including 62 editing and colour-grading tables, rack systems for seven fully equipped PCRs and ACRs as well as 36 monitor stands and monitor walls, including a 13 metre monitor control wall consisting of two rows of 20 55-inch monitors and a partially covered part. The new MediaCorp broadcast centre will also be fitted with a total of about 500 monitor arms, 150 loudspeaker supports and around 150 tabletop enclosures.

“From the project outset we identified Lund Halsey as our most suitable business partner for such an international project to ensure the successful delivery of the project. Their expertise in the design and manufacture of modular control room furniture has enabled us to supply a large volume of consoles and monitor stacks fulfilling our customers' requirements, whilst meeting the individual considerations of the various studios, by incorporating custom design features and aesthetics,” explains Konstantin Knauf, Managing Director of Qvest Media.

As master systems integrator, Qvest Media bears overall responsibility in MediaCorp's major project for all broadcasting and technical media consulting, for all operational project planning, management and execution as well as for detailed system design and systems integration. With its new broadcasting centre, MediaCorp will have one of the most modern tri-medial complexes in the entire South-East Asian region following completion of the project in 2016.
