IABM Now Accepting Applications for Engineering Student Awards

Awards Will Recognize Eight College Students in Broadcast Engineering / Media Technology Fields, Will Be Sponsored to Attend IBC

The IABM (International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers) today announced that it is now accepting applications for the 2011 Engineering Student Awards, an IABM-sponsored program designed to recognize high-achieving college students in the fields of broadcast engineering or media technology. The award will be presented to eight students, who will receive financial support to attend IBC2011 next September in Amsterdam.

"One of the biggest threats facing the global broadcast and media industries today is a chronic shortage of skilled technical resources, which is directly affecting growth and order fulfillment for technology manufacturers," said Roger Crumpton, director of education, training, and employment at the IABM. "The Engineering Student Awards program is one example of how we can take proactive steps to engage with young people and their advisors at the college and university level to lead them to technical careers in media and broadcasting. In addition to providing global recognition, the Awards give these students a stellar opportunity to see, touch, and experience the world of professional broadcasting technology and meet with potential employers at IBC2011."

The Engineering Student Awards is part of the IABM's new global training initiative, led by Crumpton and designed to help increase the pool of skilled broadcast engineers and technical staff. The awards program is open to any student that is undertaking a full-time course of study directly related to broadcast engineering and media technology, and is able to demonstrate in a 500-word essay how he or she would be able to benefit from attending IBC2011. The deadline for submitting applications for the 2011 IABM Engineering Student Awards is Friday, May 27.
