Harris Enhances Audio and Data Monitoring Capabilities for International Broadcasters

New Videotek® test and measurement product solutions address audio stability, closed captioning compliance for terrestrial DTV

Harris Broadcast Communications will introduce new Videotek® test and measurement products and enhancements at IBC 2012 (September 7-11, RAI Exhibition Center, Amsterdam, Stand 7.G20) that improve the way international broadcasters monitor program audio and data in digital and HD terrestrial transmissions.

Harris has  enhanced Dolby support to existing TVM waveform monitors and VTM Series™ rasterizers with support for the Dolby Digital Plus standard; and the addition of CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) detection and alarming for Dolby-encoded audio streams.  CRC monitoring eliminates unexpected audio dropouts and enables a more stable and pleasurable viewing experience for the consumer.

Dolby® Digital Plus is an emerging standard included today in terrestrial HDTV specifications in France, Italy, Sweden, Poland and the United Kingdom.  China most recently added Dolby Digital Plus to its new Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB) receiver specification, and the standard is gradually gaining adopters in India.

Harris also adds metadata enhancements to its CMN Series of Compact Monitors heading into IBC.  The CMN Series now supports the display of closed captions and subtitles along with video images in a wide variety of global formats, including World System Teletext (WST), OP-47 and CEA-708.

Harris will also bring these recent Videotek test and measurement reference products to IBC:
·    The VSG-4CSD clock system driver and VSG-4MTG master timing generator to establish house synchronization and router timing — especially popular on mobile production trucks and providing 3 Gb/s, IEEE-1588 and 2K support
·    The MSA Series for confidence monitoring and signal compliance.  These products can be used in standalone applications or as part of Harris’ complete DVB-T2 headend solution (featuring the Harris® Selenio™ media convergence platform and Harris DTV transmitters)
·    The VSX-11-3G multi-format changeover system, which performs automatic switching of 11 primary inputs to secondary inputs for mission-critical signal redundancy
