Harris Emphasizes Lower Operating Costs, Increased Functionality with Enhancements to NEXIO Server Portfolio

Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, announces key enhancements to its NEXIO® server portfolio, addressing the growing demands of broadcasters to achieve greater operational efficiency — without sacrificing functionality and flexibility.

Latest Advancements Include NEXIO Volt™ Integrated Storage Server and Increased Power, Workflow Enhancements in NEXIO AMP® Advanced Media Platform

Harris introduces the NEXIO Volt™ integrated storage server — a small form-factor, high-performance baseband video server equipped with its own media storage, delivering lower operating costs and high levels of resilience and reliability. Like the NEXIO Volt storage area network (SAN) server introduced in 2009, the NEXIO Volt integrated storage server offers support for up to four mixed SD/HD or SD-only baseband channels in a space-saving 1RU package.

Built on the same platform as the award-winning NEXIO AMP® server, the NEXIO Volt integrated storage server provides 1 TB of RAID-3 protected internal media storage. It is ideal for applications including disaster recovery, delay, edge server, on-air cache, production playout and ingest-to-archive.

The NEXIO Volt integrated storage server comes standard with the NEXIO Playlist™ event sequencing application for playing content to air and the NEXIO Remote™ application for ingest, playout and media management. The NEXIO FTP server also is provided to support file-based workflows. A simple software upgrade enables the NEXIO Volt integrated storage server to attach to the NEXIO shared storage system.

Harris also announces server platform enhancements that deliver increased processing power and I/O flexibility. The NEXIO AMP and NEXIO Volt platforms now feature software licensing to key the I/O channels, allowing customers to pay for only the channels and resolutions they need now — with the ability to upgrade their licensing in the field over time as their needs change. All hardware is provided as standard.

Customers can license as few as two SD-only channels, all the way up to four SD/HD channels. The NEXIO AMP SAN server now supports 600 GB hard drives on the NEXIO storage area network, working alongside the new NEXIO Media Host architecture to triple shared storage capacity to 96 TB. The NEXIO AMP integrated storage server features 10 TB of built-in, usable storage and can attach to the NEXIO shared storage system via an available upgrade kit.

To address the demands of broadcasters to achieve greater operational efficiency, the NEXIO AMP server also features a number of file-based workflow enhancements, including integrated software codec support for a variety of formats, including Panasonic® AVC-Intra™. Additional benefits include the ability to run NEXIO media applications directly on the server. This extends the capabilities of a single chassis to include multiviewer, in-server proxy generation, logo insertion and more.

Harris also offers several compressed media stream solutions to help broadcasters preserve high levels of signal quality. In addition to the NEXIO® mCAPTURE™ compressed media stream recorder and the DTP-300 digital turnaround processor, Harris also offers the new NEXIO transport stream delay server. The new delay server records one or more transport streams for re-transmission after a specified time period — ideal for customers who need to delay many low-bitrate streams in an ASI or IP environment.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
