  • The new two-channel receivers seamlessly integrate into Gearhouse’s existing wireless workflow for productions of all sizes.

Gearhouse Broadcast, a supplier of technical facilities, crew and services used to capture the world’s most watched content, has upgraded its digital radio microphones inventory with the latest EM 6000 digital receivers from Sennheiser. The new two-channel receivers support Gearhouse’s commitment to provide solutions for broadcasts of all sizes, scaling from individual units for smaller shows to multiples under Ethernet control for large-scale productions.

Whilst others celebrated the release of the EM 6000’s at its UK launch event, Gearhouse’s engineers were already using them to bring flawless audio performance to ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. In the 11th year of providing solutions to show’s live broadcasts, Gearhouse used the EM 6000’s as part of its existing workflow of microphones and in-ear monitors (IEMs) to ensure that the show’s contestants, judges and presenters could be tracked throughout the stage and backstage area at Elstree Studios.

“To maintain our track record in delivering high-quality sound from the most complex broadcasts, we are committed to being early adopters of the latest top-class technology,” said Colin Pearson, senior sound engineer at Gearhouse Broadcast. “As a long term Sennheiser customer, the EM 6000’s are compatible with our existing kit and bring the cost-effective scalable performance we need to meet even the most challenging environments”.

Unlike its predecessor, the EM 6000 gives a quality indication of the received signal, rather than just an indication of signal magnitude, which is particularly beneficial in digital systems. The EM 6000’s can also accommodate a wider range of antenna types which meets the challenge of larger shows where there are numerous radio microphone channels active, over a complex geographical site, and broad frequency range.

As well as eight EM 6000 digital radio microphone receivers, Gearhouse also purchased 16 Sennheiser Digital 9000 wireless microphone systems to bolster its existing stock. Their long battery life, accurate battery life reporting, impressive audio quality and audio encryption facilities have been integral in bringing error-free sound to Gearhouse’s wireless workflow, especially where live content of a sensitive nature is involved.

“The Gearhouse team has always positioned itself ahead of the curve when it comes to offering the latest wireless audio workflows” said Simon Holley, sales director – pro audio solutions – UK & Ireland, at Sennheiser. “The EM 6000 complements Gearhouse’s existing stock to deliver error-free sound and exceptional dynamics to its varied live production schedule”.
