Gearhouse Broadcast to highlight new 4K, IP and remote production technologies at IBC2016
posted:
Mirroring the 4K native-IP live remote production test that Aperi did at UEFA EURO 2016, the technology showcase will see a number of live and sourced 4K signals sent from Gearhouse’s stand (10.B39) in Hall 10 to Aperi’s stand (2.C27) some 500 metres away in Hall 2. The signals will then be brought back to the Gearhouse stand, where 4K clean switching will be shown on a big screen to demonstrate how it’s possible to send compressed 4K signals over IP and distribute them without degrading picture quality.
“Gearhouse is actively looking into IP video infrastructure and remote production with Aperi being one of those technologies that we’re currently reviewing,” said Martin Paskin, systems integration manager at Gearhouse Broadcast. “As well as the Aperi demonstration at IBC, we’re also carrying out trials for IP and remote production in Australia and the USA to help address the mind-shift required to adapt how content can now be produced. Despite the fact that it’s early days for the technology, we’re already seeing requests from both our event projects and systems integration customers who are recognising the potential production benefits and efficiencies gained.”

David Phillips, business development director for systems integration at Gearhouse, added: “Our systems integration and projects experience gives us a distinct understanding of how the market is moving and we have a clear view of the impact that IP and 4K will have on our customers and their upcoming SI projects. It’s not just the technology that we’re looking at, but also the associated production requirements, because if people cannot easily operate it, then it won’t work, no matter how innovative it is. Because of this knowledge, we can bring added value to a project by helping to steer the customer in the direction that will best meet their business objectives.”
