EVS Production Servers Integrate with Omneon MediaGrid™ Storage System

EVS and Omneon Integration

EVS Broadcast Equipment and Omneon will be presenting their integrated instant tapeless production (EVS) and storage (Omneon) workflow at NAB. Demonstrations of the integrated Instant Production and Media Storage Workflow at NAB will be presented at the Omneon booth N5106.

XT[2]+ and XS Workflow with Omneon’s MediaGrid™

EVS continues to expand its workflow capabilities for live HD productions with the new integration between its production servers, XT[2]+ and XS , and Omneon’s MediaGrid™ content storage system.

EVS XT and XS series servers combined with XTAccess , EVS’ gateway software and watch folder solution, allows to exchange with Omneon’s MediaGrid™ active storage system for fast and seamless access to high volumes of HD media in live and near-live broadcast productions.

Increased flexibility and maximum reliability

During live operations, HD Live audio/video feeds are recorded natively on XT/XS series servers as Avid DNxHD®, DVCPro HD or Apple ProRes® codec files. IPDirector, EVS’ content management system, is used for live and near-live HD video ingestion, production and playout operations. Media content from EVS servers is made available for post-production on Omneon’s MediaGrid™ storage system. The content is transferred as self-contained MXF OP1a files via XTAccess, EVS’ intelligent gigabit Ethernet network gateway. EVS Operators can capture and manipulate the video content from the Omneon MediaGrid™ storage system for production and playout on the EVS server.

“The seamless integration between Omneon’s MediaGrid™ storage system and EVS’ XT and XS series servers provides even greater possibilities for broadcasters that are searching for increased flexibility and maximum reliability in a complex HD production environment,” said Pierre L’Hoest, Chief Executive Offer of EVS. “This is why EVS is continuously working to open up its technology. As a result, producers have better access to stored media and can focus more easily on dynamic ways to create content,” he adds.

XT Access Workflow

XTAccess to automatically send the appropriate files to MediaGrid™

“By creating a tight linkage between EVS servers and Omneon MediaGrid, we are giving customers a highly scalable solution for content production and allowing them to use the production tools of their choice,” said Geoff Stedman, senior vice president of marketing for Omneon. “With support for common codecs and media wrappers, the combined solution simplifies production workflows by enabling direct editor access to content ingested by EVS and stored on MediaGrid, without transcoding or rewrapping.”

XTAccess, EVS’ gateway software and watch folder solution, is used to automatically send the appropriate files to MediaGrid™ for post-production direct access. Once files are transferred from EVS to MediaGrid™, they are available for direct editing by Avid, Apple or Adobe editors. Once the editing is complete, XTAccess transfer clips back to the EVS server for playout or can be accessed by other tools for publishing to other outlets (e.g. websites or mobile services).

Due to the extensive native codec support of EVS’ and Omneon’s servers, the entire workflow can be made with the same codec. This allows fast processing, quality preservation, perfect integration with post-production and no need for any coding/decoding.
