Custom Consoles Module-R and Media Wall chosen for BT Sport

Custom Consoles announces the successful completion of a major technical furniture project at the new London home of BT Sport.

BT Sport selected broadcast facilities provider Timeline Television to handle the construction of part of the former International Broadcast Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park into the new home of the BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2 and ESPN channels. Systems integrator Megahertz Broadcast Systems was entrusted by Timeline Television with the technical fit-out of the sports production centre.

"Custom Consoles' Module R range of technical furniture and Media Wall display support frames proved a basis on which we were able to proceed with absolute confidence," says Steve Hope, Project Manager at Megahertz Broadcast Systems. "We integrated a total of 26 Module-R desks and 10 Media Walls into seven studio control rooms and associated production areas. The technical infrastructure is entirely tapeless and makes intensive use of IT-based devices operated via touch-screen. Module-R gave us the freedom to incorporate equipment relevant to each work position into conveniently located pods. Most of the desks are fitted with multiple monitor display screens on operator-adjustable Ergotron support arms. The Media Walls proved equally versatile, enabling monitor support systems to be scaled to the specific needs of each control room with the option of easy future expansion if required."

"We are very pleased to have been chosen as partners in such a large-scale and high profile installation," adds Neil Reed, Managing Director of Custom Consoles Managing Director. "Module-R and Media Wall were designed for exactly this type of project, enabling broadcast control room furniture of any size and complexity to be created from a standard range of interlocking elements while retaining the robustness, comfortable ergonomics and attractive styling our customers naturally demand."

Custom Consoles' Module-R product range includes high-quality single-bay, dual-bay and triple-bay desk sections with front or rear access, work surfaces in matching widths, and corner desk sections in 90 degree, 45 degree or 30 degree angles. Also available are integral worktops, a slide-out keyboard drawer, equipment pods with 3U, 6U or 8U capacity, a 19 in storage pedestal and a 27U equipment bay. Module-R desks incorporate steel-and-aluminium vertical supports with internal cable ducts. Resting on a broad load-bearing skid, the legs provide high strength and stability, protect studio carpet and allow easy relocation if required during technical rebuilds. Module-R furniture is available as off-the-shelf units in beech, cherry, maple or oak finish with a choice of hard-wearing arabesque, black or blue marmoleum worktops. Cabinet construction is in veneered MDF with continuous brush-strip edging and easy cable access.

Custom Consoles' Media Wall series supports flat-screen video display panels individually, in a horizontal row, as a vertical column or as a matrix, complete with fully concealed cables. Panels can be configured from a range of 1.5 metre, 2 metre and 2.5 metre width frames with optional matching equipment storage pods. Existing installations can be expanded simply by adding extra frames.
