Miranda to Demonstrate 4K / UHDTV Expertise
posted:
Miranda and Sony have collaborated to realize 4K / UHDTV live production solutions, specifically targeting high profile sports. A seamless 4K technology solution involving both companies will be used in UK outside broadcast company Telegenic’s 4K-equipped OB truck — a European first — expected to go into service later this year.

The Telegenic truck will be capable of capturing live footage in HD or 4K, supporting two unique formats out of the same truck, and is underpinned by Sony’s existing product portfolio including HDC-2500R cameras, PMW-F55 4K cameras, Sony’s MVS-8000X Vision Mixer, Miranda’s 4K / UHDTV enhanced NVISION 8500 Series Routers, and three Sony PVM-300 4K LCD monitors, to deliver a reliable 4K production workflow.
Further demonstrations of 4K / UHDTV advancements for Miranda are led by the new Telecast CopperHead 3404K camera-mountable transceiver. The CopperHead 3404K requires only two strands of robust, lightweight fiber optic cable to carry all bi-directional signals needed, including four 3Gb/s HD/SDI paths, for 4K productions from a camera to a truck or control room. This enables 4K / UHDTV ENG cameras to be dual-purposed for use in studios, ENG and digital cinematography without the limitations imposed on HD and, now, 4K productions by copper cabling.

Miranda routers such as the 4K / UHDTV enhanced NVISION 8500 Series are optimized with SMPTE RP-168-compliant, quad-link 3 Gb/s switching that provides coherent, synchronized switching of all 4K links during the same vertical interval.
For monitoring applications, Miranda solutions readily handle 4K and downconverts standard HD so that standard HD/3Gb/s multiviewers can be used for monitoring while 4K images can be integrated into a standard HD broadcast. Additionally, the new Kaleido-Modular-X enables broadcasters to use advanced 4K features to maintain exceptional video and graphics quality and vastly simplify system design within a compact, 3RU, air-cooled Miranda Densité 3 frame.

Kaleido-Modular-X uses Miranda’s proprietary FlexBridge, a SMPTE-compliant coax interconnect that provides ultimate scalability and flexibility while simultaneously saving space by eliminating the need for external adapters. FlexBridge enables input and output modules to be connected within a frame or across multiple frames with no limitation on the number of sources.
Scott Murray, Miranda’s senior vice president of Core Products, said, “Our range of solutions will play a central role in enabling broadcasters and filmmakers to accelerate their ability to take advantage of the benefits of 4K in their productions. UHDTV trade show demos are transforming speculative conversations into informed decisions about physically making the transition to higher quality. Ultra-high quality has been a serious business for us from the start, which is why we are pleased to demonstrate our expertise and advance the dialogue supporting the upsurge in high-end video processing, management and distribution technologies.”
