LEADER shows LV 5480 4K-Upgradable 3G-SDI Multi-Format Broadcast Signal and Picture Monitor at IBC2015

LEADER LV 5480 4K-upgradable 3G-SDI multi-format broadcast signal and picture monitor - See LEADER Instruments Corporation on stand 11.A10

LEADER announces a new addition to its range of broadcast-quality test instruments. The LV 5480 is a multi-format waveform monitor capable of displaying and evaluating signals from up to four 3G-SDI input channels simultaneously. Based on the award-winning LV 5490, the LV 5480 provides the features broadcast cameramen, post-production houses and technical support staff need in today's HD world. The LV 5480 can be upgraded quickly and easily to the full 4K feature set of the LV 5490, including 4K pattern generator, eye pattern and digital audio card.

The LV 5480 is designed for use in a very wide selection of test and measurement roles. Its capabilities include waveform, vector and picture monitoring, an event log, data dump and four-channel timing display. An SDI signal status facility looks for cyclic-redundancy-check errors and embedded-audio errors.

LEADER's CINELITE® II toolset (comprising CINELITE and CINEZONE) also comes as a standard feature, allowing easy assessment of relative exposure and overall luminance.

Waveform, vector and picture display can all be viewed at the same time on the LV 5480's front-panel-mounted 9 inch monitor screen. This is a full 1920 x 1080 high-definition LED-backlit XGA in-plane switching display.

Simultaneous viewing of multiple SDI inputs is possible, including overlays. The size and location of individual channel displays can be adjusted using a USB pointing device. The LV 5480 can also be controlled remotely using standard KVM tools.

Additional features of the LV 5480 include video frame capture, instrumentation screen capture, timecode display and ID display.

LV 5480 operators can adjust the size of up to four displays on the screen to suit specific tasks. This allows easy magnification and inspection of detail on the instrument's 9 inch 1920 x 1080 HD LCD display screen instead of being limited to fixed size quadrants. If the 9 inch display is not large enough for the operator, the LV 5480 also comes with a 1920 x 1080 HD DVI and HD-SDI rasterised output for display on a larger monitor.

Fully portable, the LV 5480 has a footprint of just 8.77 inches wide by 14.7 inches deep and a height of 7.44 inches (223 x 360 x 189 mm). The instrument weighs only 10.4 pounds (4.72 kg). A rack mounting adapter is also available.

The LV 5480 can be upgraded at any time to a full feature LV 5490 with 4K video format compliance for digital cinematography (4096 x 2160) or broadcast (3840 x 2160) based on 3G dual link, 3G quad link and HD quad link. A 4K/HD pattern generator is also available, producing 75 to 100 per cent colour bars, ramp and cross-hatch. A Focus Assist option allows highly accurate on-set adjustment of camera focus to match the 4K format's ability to handle very precise image detail.

In addition to the LV 5480's video test and measurement capabilities, a versatile selection of audio monitoring and analysis tools are available with the Digital Audio option. These include 4 x 4 channels of SDI audio de-embedding, lissajous display, surround-sound display and volumetric display. Up to 16 channels of de-embedded SDI audio can be viewed on screen and output as discrete AES3 feeds.

Eye pattern, including jitter waveform display and Dolby decoding, can be ordered as optional facilities along with a CIE 1931/1976 color space chart, which can display BT.709, DCI (P2) plus BT.2020 which is the 4K standard’s full ITU recommended colour space.

The LV 5480 will make its first exhibition appearance on the LEADER stand (11.10A) at IBC2015 in Amsterdam, September 11-15. LEADER representatives attending will include Hiro Sawa (President, LEADER Instruments Corporation, Richard Heath, Koichi Fukagawa, Kevin Salvidge, Christian Young and Koji Yano.
