Element Technica and SGO Collaborate

Element Technica and SGO announce dynamic technical collaboration to provide optimum production solutions to the industry

SGO, with Element Technica (ET), pioneering designer and manufacturer of the Technica 3D family of stereoscopic 3D rigs, jointly announce today, that an exciting strategic technical collaboration has been formed between the two companies.

The collaboration integrates Element Technica’s 3D rigs, through bi-directional meta-data capability, with SGO’s flagship DI and Stereo 3D Mistika post production system, which enables live interaction between all functions and accepts almost any image resolution from SD to 5K and beyond, in 2D and Stereo 3D. Mistika supports real-time ARRI, RED, SI-2K and other native data workflows, and seamlessly integrates timeline-based editing, conforming, infinite layer compositing, colour grading and image restoration all in one complete system with various toolsets working together in the timeline.

SGO's new on-set innovative development and production solution, Mistika Live, extends Mistika's functionalities to the start of the production process, and is able to captures rig, lens and camera set-up data, along with the geometry, exposure and colour errors. Consequently, when using the Mistika post system during the finishing stage of the post production process, requirements to translate the meta-data from one manufacturer’s protocol to another, are eliminated, preventing attendant errors that can often result from such a process.

Element Technica’s series of Technica 3D rigs are designed to stereoscopically mount digital cameras and lenses for the highest quality 3D applications. ET’s newly introduced Pulsar mid-sized rig joins the small-camera Neutron and large camera Quasar rigs with all three products utilising the same assembly, alignment and control procedures and software through the entire Technica 3D rig series. (ET makes a special version of its Pulsar rig, the Atom, which is purpose built for the RED Epic 5K cameras.) ET’s rigs have become the rig-of-choice for motion pictures and television productions world-wide.

Element Technica co-founder, Stephen Pizzo marvelled at Mistika’s capability: “What makes Mistika so powerful is that it is pixel-based, so when it comes to colour-matching, it is not trying to match a big group of pixels or a frame, but instead the system is able to match one pixel to the next pixel, which is a much more precise operation,” Pizzo continued: “Mistika also has the remarkable ability to change IO (interocular) in post, not just the convergence, which other systems can do. Mistika can change IO, and it works, which is impressive!”

“We developed our Technica 3D rigs to simplify and streamline the 3D acquisition process,” said Pizzo, “to put 3D capability in the hands of experienced 2D production professionals. With Mistika, our common objectives are to develop and provide a continuation of that simplification and streamlining of the 3D workflow through the post production process, to give 3D content creators first-rate technology along with highly-efficient solutions in the marketplace. Element Technica will continuously strive to deliver the best quality possible and we are deeply committed in supporting SGO.”

“SGO has an excellent relationship with Element Technica,” said Geoff Mills, Director of SGO Global Sales & Operations. ”We share a mutual incentive to deliver exceptionally high quality solutions which we can further develop by working closely together. Because both of our companies are leaders in our specific areas of expertise, this new agreement with Element Technica provides our respective customers with meaningful and outstanding stereoscopic 3D solutions and workflow. This is yet another key industry partnership from SGO which demonstrates our total commitment to delivering the very best solutions in the market.”
