Teranex 2D to 3D and 3D encoding helps Luc Besson’s Digital Factory Post-Production Facility get into 3D

Teranex Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer of high-performance video processing platforms is pleased to announce that Digital Factory (DF), one of France’s most advanced Post Production facilities, has selected Teranex’s real-time 2D to 3D conversion technology to convert selected archival and new 2D content into simulated 3D programming.

Digital Factory has been using the VC100 for several years and views its software upgradability as an added advantage over other products. The VC100’s 1RU full dual channel capability increases workflow capacity while minimizing rack space and now by simply adding a digital key, Digital Factory can simulate 3D from its vast 2D archives and encode it into 3D.

Frédéric Warnotte, DF’s technical director says they use the VC100 on almost every job; he has reviewed Teranex’s 2D-3D performance since last fall and believes DF will now be able to transform 2D archives into simulated 3D. DF’s objective is to use 2D material when possible as part of its increasing 3D post-production efforts. Being able to re-purpose and use 2D content is a must for cost-effective 3D post-production and distribution.

“Good simulated 3D content generated from 2D sources eases the evolution to 3D for our clients by enabling the creation of additional content for 3D distribution, just as Teranex conversion of SD content is used in lieu of native HD whenever needed. We were intimately involved in the SD to HD transition and we believe our exceptional 2D to 3D conversion technology will do the same for 3D”; said Mike Poirier, General Manager at Teranex.

The patent pending technology is available through the VC1-2D-3D option for dual channel VC100s giving the ability to convert 2D content into 3D for distribution, while keeping all of the VC100s features like frame synchronizing and more than 250 format and frame rate conversions.

The new application will be on display at the 2011 Eurovision TV Summit, at The Radisson Hotel in Lucerne, Switzerland from May 5th to 6th.
