EVS Continues its Focus on TV Live Production

Enhancements to XT3 Server, IPDirector, LSM Cockpit and DYVI Switcher were presented at NAB

At the EVS press conference at this year's NAB Nicolas Bourdon, SVP Marketing, introduced the newly appointed Managing Director and CEO Muriel De Lathouver to the audience and both were debuting a number of new features on the EVS products for sports and live TV production professionals hungry to enhance their productions via improved replay operations.

XT3 Server
Topping the list was the introduction of the new Multicam software engine for EVS’ iconic XT3 servers. Customers can expect expanded flexibility with increased SuperMotion camera configurations of up to two SuperMotion six-times camera recording with two additional recording and playout channels available. Other new features include ingest and playout options with the XS server for studios and audio channel/MADI support. Added to these capabilities is the XT3’s current format support for 4K/UHD, 1080p and proxy, 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity, up to 12 HD/SD live rec/play channels. In this way the EVS XT3 server pioneered  4K recording and replay with a simple upgrade to its existing system. It means that the vast number of operators familiar with the LSM control panel can instantly provide 4K replays on standard hardware.

IPDirector and Epsio
The “LSM Cockpit” will showcase how operators can pilot best-in-class tools within a unified LSM environment, including flexible multi-angle content access and control for quick highlight creation, new touch-based clip and playlist control, on-the-fly virtual effects for augmenting the live replay, and fast media archive/restore.

The EVS “Stadium Control Room” demonstrated IPDirector content tools for maximizing game-day content production and delivery – featuring HD and 4K advancements including enhanced replays through zoom and integrated delivery to post-production editing tools. Also included are Web-based tools for collaboration and content exchange between venues and studio, automated clip management, metadata integration and archive management.

For multi-camera studio productions, IPDirector brings recording sessions to the post production stage efficiently, offering best-in-class integration with Adobe Premiere, Avid Media Composer, and Apple FCP-X, as well as single file exchange for 4K editing.  It also integrates with the EVS line of XStore shared storage solutions for intelligently managing assets with optimal speed and guaranteed storage capacity. The Director’s Cut module is the ultimate time saver for “as live” shows, by collapsing the time from record to edit completion.

IPLink
Through EVS’ IPLink plug-in extension panel for Adobe Anywhere, EVS provides editors with high-speed access to live content while content is still being ingested, and allows easy delivery for fast playout. Editors can search through logging and clip metadata, locate content from live bins, preview content and make decisions without committing to final content, and bring the fast-paced multi-camera content into their edits.

The added value of Adobe Anywhere brings the next degree of power to environments that need to collaborate and define best team-based editing solutions for fast-action productions. The collaboration hub gives editors access to centralized production files from any workstation, allows production versioning and conflict resolution, and provides views to activity feeds, and the data remains secure in the event of a hardware or software issue.

DYVI
Included in the new DYVI capabilities is the ability to use the production-switcher functionality in 4K resolution, thanks to its non-proprietary processing architecture. This includes the latest operational additions like full timeline control with an unlimited number of timelines per scene and multiple tracks, offering the smoothest back-to-back recall and unique re-entry capabilities at any resolution. EVS demonstrated a single-file 4K workflow and showed this implementation by ingesting Red camera 4K live signals from the Red booth into the EVS DYVI IP-based production switcher.

Also new was an extension to the macro capabilities. DYVI now supports conditional macros, allowing an unlimited number of presets to be running in parallel, with multiple conditional setups. The RamRecorder has also been enhanced with more clip and still channels per processing module, more supported file formats, and an embedded FTP server for automated content exchange.
