Starting April 9, NEP staff will be on hand in NAB Booth 3714 in the South Upper Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center to answer questions about its comprehensive set of broadcast, live event and media solutions used to cover over 100 medal events and 18 days of Olympic competition. Demonstrations of its media asset management tool, Mediabank, and NEP’s augmented reality (AR) capabilities will be available at the show.

NEP Group is thrilled to announce that their Mediabank team, along with their partners at Discovery, are the proud winners of a 2018 IABM BaM Award™ in the project/collaboration category for their work to create the first ever cloud-based media asset management system for the Olympic Games.  Mediabank’s media asset management solution facilitated live MCR, ingest, craft editing of highlights, automated clip generation, storage of content, distribution of live content and clips, a signal hub, an audio matrix and 24/7 monitoring and support for over 12,000 hours of Olympic content.

Infront continued its expansion into the eSports arena after announcing a new exclusive partnership with PENTA Sports. The world-renowned eSports organisation from Berlin will cooperate with Infront on a long-term, exclusive and global basis.

The San Antonio Alamodome in Texas played host to the 2018 Men’s College Basketball Championship Game on April 2^nd, which was viewed by millions of television viewers around the world. Inside the Alamodome, for more than 67,000 fans, Ross Video played a big part of the fan engagement experience with XPression and Tessera SE. The recent renovation of the Alamodome added several large screens as well as a ring of new video ribbon board displays circling the seating area.  Filling the stunning 360-degree HD ribbon board around the Alamodome was accomplished using Ross Video’s XPression real-time motion graphics engines controlled by XPression Tessera SE.

German public broadcaster ZDF produced the friendly football match between Germany and Brazil on 27 March in the Berlin Olympic Stadium for the first time for the first time with new possibilities for image composition.

The 370 km/h action of the first-ever Red Bull Air Race in France thrilled 83,500 spectators over a three-day weekend in Cannes, and top honors went to Australia’s Matt Hall, who captured his first win since 2016. Matthias Dolderer of Germany was second, and the USA’s Michael Goulian took third. With two different winners in two races, the rest of the eight-stop season is up for grabs.

The world’s top ULTRA4 racers converge in Johnson Valley, CA every February to compete in the King of Hammers, a week-long series of off-road races spanning more than 200 miles of rocky desert terrain. The race draws in more than 60,000 spectators and is broadcast live to audiences via the ULTRA4 racing website and Livestream.com, with highlights streamed to YouTube and Facebook Live. Hammerking Productions is responsible for the week-long production, capturing and streaming more than seven hours of footage a day to fans on-site and online. With this year’s production involving multiple camera sources and destinations, the Hammerking team tapped AJA’s KUMO 6464 for SDI signal routing.

The FIFA Referees Committee has selected 13 Referees, who will act solely as Video Assistant Referees (VARs) during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. The selection criteria for the VARs was primarily based on their experience as Video Match Officials in their respective National Associations and Confederation competitions, in addition to their successful participation in several preparatory seminars and FIFA competitions, where they enhanced their VAR knowledge and skills by using the system.

Over 100,000 registered runners and wheelchair participants at more than 200 locations across 66 countries covered 934,484 km globally on Sunday in the fifth annual Wings for Life World Run charity event to raise funds for spinal cord injury research. Five and a half hours of camaraderie and competition shared across every continent produced unforgettable moments of elation and emotion until Swedish wheelchair athlete Aron Anderson and Portuguese runner Vera Nunes were crowned Global Champions.

The UCI van with Xeebra on board was deployed for the first time yesterday during the fourth stage of the 2018 Giro d’Italia in Sicily.

EVS and the Broadcast Academy of Host Broadcast Services (HBS) held two new masterclasses to encourage more women and students to consider careers in live sports broadcasting. The sessions were held at EVS’ headquarters in Liège in late April, and follow on from previous sessions that proved to be hugely popular at IBC2017. The sessions were first run to coincide with the announcement of a strategic educational partnership between EVS, the leading provider of live production technology, and HBS, host broadcaster of major events, including FIFA World Cups™.
