Wrapping up on August 5 with the finals match in San Diego, the 2017 Mylan World TeamTennis (WTT) season broke new ground in broadcast coverage of professional tennis with the introduction of state-of-the-art, player-worn wireless microphones. Supplied by Bexel, an NEP Broadcast Services Company, the Quantum5X (Q5X) QT-5100 PlayerMic kits added a deeper element of fan engagement and excitement to live Mylan WTT broadcasts.

Blackmagic Design announced that its range of URSA Mini digital film cameras is being used to produce match day content for FC Red Bull Salzburg, as part of a live OB solution designed around the ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio 4K switcher.

The 2017 Wrestling World Championships in Paris relied on the videoReferee® video judging system to support the judges with fast video replays and multi-angle camera signals. The Wrestling World Championships, which took place from August 21-26 in Paris, for the first time was supported by acclaimed video judging system videoReferee®, provided by slow motion and replay specialist slomo.tv. The team of German System Integrator Broadcast Solutions GmbH was on site during the complete tournament to operate the system and to help the video referees in charge.

Ekstraklasa Live Park, the broadcast arm of top Polish football league Ekstraklasa, has signed an agreement with ChyronHego to equip all 16 of the league's arenas with the award-winning TRACAB™ image-based tracking system by the end of this year. TRACAB will enable live tracking of all movement of players and the ball on the field, and Ekstraklasa Park Live will use the resulting player performance data to enhance its live coverage of close to 300 LOTTO Ekstraklasa matches.

Following a discussion at NAB on the EVS booth, Host Broadcast Services Chief of External Relations Lise Cosimi-Breant continued to exchange with EVS Chief Executive Officer Muriel de Lathouwer thoughts around gender equality in the broadcast industry and the initiatives the two companies have set up to allow women greater access to tech/broadcast training. This shared presentation highlighted the extended partnership between HBS and EVS, which resulted in the launch of the Live TV Simulator training tool for broadcast professionals.

On telekomcup.de, users could stream the TELEKOM CUP 2017 live on their smartphone or PC on July 15, 2017, and watch the matches exactly as they would happen on their TV screen. But that’s not all: viewers were also able to switch between the various camera angles in the stadium and sometimes watch unusual and unique perspectives that were not available when watching the game live on TV. There were also the possibility of selecting angles from different stands or even the mascot’s point of view. In the stadium, the life-size mascots made their way around the field and wore wireless body cameras. This created nine different live images simultaneously that could be viewed on the Internet at any time during the event.

ATP and ATP Media today announced that Amazon Prime Video is now an official streaming partner of the ATP World Tour.  The new deal covers the worldwide distribution of the Next Gen ATP Finals through Amazon Prime Video.

CP Communications, a full-service broadcast equipment rental and production company, is relying on a quartet of Calrec Audio's Brio compact digital audio consoles to deliver high-quality live sound for Fox Sports' marquee coverage of pro golf, baseball, and football. CP Communications first deployed the new Brios for the U.S. Open in June, where they worked in concert with several other Calrec desks on a Hydra2 network to help overcome the complex logistical challenges of audio mixing from the sprawling Erin Hills golf course in Erin, Wisconsin.

This year saw the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) Games 29^th edition and the 9^th edition of the ASEAN Para Games, held at the newly refurbished KL Sports City in Kuala Lumpur from 19^th to 30^th August. Australia-based Norwest Productions provided the audio for both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, with DiGiCo SD5s positioned at the Front of House, SD9s deployed for audio patch control and SD8s at the Closing Ceremony’s monitor position.

We are in a new world of sports and live event media consumption. Research (Telstra – Q3 2016 Global Video Index analysis) has shown that media clip consumption associated with live events spikes up before and after a live event, and that social media interaction during events is skyrocketing.

Blackmagic Design has announced that a live production workflow featuring it's ATEM Television Studio Pro HD switcher and Teranex AV is being used to produce a new fans' football show by YouTuber The True Geordie in partnership with bookmakers Coral.
