RTS streamlines communications for the Volkswagen Group at biggest auto show in the US

RTS intercoms made certain the Audi and Volkswagen press conferences went off without a hitch at this year’s Detroit Motor Show. Communication between the participants, control rooms, and technicians was assured by an ADAM-M matrix and a variety of RTS keypanels. To facilitate the preparation of SNG (Satellite News Gathering) signals, the systems on the two show booths were linked by fiberoptic cables and utilized IP-based OMNEO technology. Berlin communications specialist CS Com Solution was responsible for the design and implementation of the installation.

Looking back, it can be difficult to remember that many of the technologies we now see as having been inevitable were not long ago in their infancy, their future prospects uncertain. In 1996, for example, with the World Wide Web only a couple of years old, few people outside of academia and the military had much understanding of what “Internet Protocol” (IP) was and how it could be used. Digital audio, meanwhile, had been around in various forms for a while, but the AES/EBU standard had only recently been fully embraced by the audio industry as a common means of digital interchange. “I often think to myself,” says John Ball, who began a career at Microsoft that year, “how cool it was to have seen how AES changed the future of audio by enabling a full transition to digital. And now I’m here to witness the next phase in that evolution, which is changing the world of digital audio from AES to IP.”

RTV Chooses T-VIPS

T-VIPS, a global leader in professional video contribution and distribution solutions, today announces that its TVG420 ASI to IP gateway has been chosen by RTV Slovenia to distribute Digital Terrestrial programming from the RTV media centre to 13 transmitter sites throughout Slovenia. The choice of the TVG420 enables RTV to deploy ASI in the studio and for final transmission, while taking advantage of cost-effective and flexible IP networks for transport to the transmitters. The Digital Switchover (DSO) project will go live in 2011.
