National Geographic aired a once in a lifetime live show aptly named ‘Earth Live’ on Sunday, July 9th. The program showcased the wonders of the natural world, told through the lenses of cinematographers who dedicate their lives to documenting the extraordinary fauna of our planet. Hosted by Jane Lynch, ‘Earth Live’ was a two-hour live event that required nearly 50 channels of record (many starting days before the broadcast) to cover live feeds transmitting from twenty-eight locations across 17 countries. The production required heavy-duty engineering and resourceful coordination to pull off a Super Bowl-style live broadcast event, that was simulcast globally on National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild in 171 countries and 45 languages.

In its 50th year, the IBC Conference is still built around the technical papers programme, with the most influential paper in the programme winning the IBC Conference Prize. This year, the award goes to Marcelo Souza and his colleagues Joāo Castellani, Daniel Monteiro and Carlos Octávio Quieroz from Brazilian broadcaster, TV Globo, for their paper entitled ‘Big data for data journalism, enhanced business analytics and video recommendation at Globo’.

UEFA has delivered the world’s first uncompressed UHD remote production trial during the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Final, held in Poland in June, in collaboration with Snell Advanced Media (SAM) and system’s integrator, Gearhouse Broadcast. During the Championship final game, the IP system – which replaced a traditional OB set up - delivered live camera signals from the Marshal Józef Piłsudski Stadium in Krakow, Poland to UEFA who were located at BT Sport’s facility at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, around 1600km away, ready for live edit and playout.

The new unit will have eight UA107x8.4BESM 4K studio lenses, five UA18x5.5BERD 4K portable zooms, three UA14x4.5BERD 4K portable zooms, and one UA22x8BERD 4K portable lenses.
The Borussia Dortmund Corso Truck drives past tens of thousands of onlookers standing by the roadside, merrily cheering their soccer club for winning the German Football Association Cup. WDR TV transmits the spectacular parade live for several hours showing pictures of the club’s truck straight from its course. This is a treat the TV audience and the outside crowds take for granted when watching from the LED screen on Friedensplatz.
