Blackmagic Design’s Teranex 2D Processor played an integral role during DreamHack Summer in bringing the gaming and digital experience to life for over 20,000 visitors, 10 million stream starts and 2.5 million unique viewers of the international digital festival.
DreamHack Summer 2013 continued the festival’s reputation for breaking records. As well as holding the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest LAN party, June’s event achieved the most viewing hours per user ever, with over 10 million stream starts and 2.5 million unique viewers over the weekend across a range of channels including national broadcast, live performances and online content.

Based in London, Timeline Television is a well-known name in UK broadcasting. For the past 10 years, the company has been spearheading broadcast solutions from concept to completion, including: outside broadcasts, post-production and studio-based productions. With two sizeable post production facilities in London and a third in MediaCityUK (Salford), Timeline works with many of the UK’s broadcasters to deliver technical and creative facilities for programmes that vary in size and scope from live music and awards shows to political party conferences, global and domestic sports competitions, and current affairs. 

Celebro Media specialises in live production, providing studio space, galleries, uplink facilities, staff and everything required producing and transmitting live content. The rapidly growing studio facility has five studios at its central London location with further facilities in Moscow. By Autumn 2017, Celebro Media will have completed works on an additional five studios in London and two in New York. Also, its has recently begun trials of a new OB service that allows multi camera switching down a single transmission line. The service is currently being offered to international broadcaster on a trial basis.

The technology and ingenuity of broadcasters with distribution rights to the 2012 Olympics were thoroughly tested in an effort to serve a wider viewing audience than ever before, measured both geographically and by sheer audience numbers. Following extensive evaluations to find the best encoding platforms for both live and on-demand video streaming, the BBC, CTV, Terra, NHK and Eurosport all selected Elemental video processing solutions to support coverage of the 2012 Olympics.

EPC required a system that could be built and tested within three weeks of the initial contract agreement, ready for use at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal, with editors and producers fully trained in this time. The ability to integrate GoPro files was also a key consideration for EPC when selecting a system as a lot of footage comes directly from GoPro cameras fitted in the rally cars themselves. And finally, the system had to have easy handling of HD material and quick time-to-air as EPC would be shooting the season’s programming entirely in HD with a very short turnaround time between rally heats. Quantel’s Enterprise sQ fast-turnaround production system was selected as the winning tender, successfully meeting EPC’s key criteria.

The sports broadcast scene in Europe is hotting up, and new entrants acquire rights and launch new channels in the competition for viewers with this lucrative genre. In France, beIN SPORT launched last year, and BT Sport has launched in the UK this year. To set up the broadcast operation, Al Jazeera turned to Unitecnic, a broadcast engineering and systems integrator based in Barcelona, with offices in Madrid, Lisbon, Miami, Buenos Aires and Dubai. Unitecnic is a business unit of MediaPro, part of WPP’s Imagina Group.

After a five-year hiatus, multi Grammy® Award-winning band No Doubt have reunited, trekking across the U.S. and Canada on a summer tour that’s just winding down. It is increasingly rare to find a major sports event which isn't covered at least in part by 3D stereoscopic cameras. The FIFA World Cup will provide the largest global grandstand for the format but 3D recording and transmission also debuted in 2010 at cricket in India, ice hockey in New York and at the World Championships in Germany, the rugby Six Nations tournament in London & Paris and the State of Origin in Australia, Ryder Cup, Golf Masters and PGA Tour, while events like surfing, darts and boxing have all received 3D trials. After the UEFA Champions League final in Madrid, UEFA is mulling plans to transmit select matches of the Champions League in 3D while nearly all motorsports bodies have also conducted tests. Selected matches of the English Premier League and the French Ligue 1 are covered on Sky 3D UK respectively Orange since April, as well as NFL matches on ESPN 3D. And two of the German Football Cup matches were aired live within 24 hours on Sky 3D Germany in October.
