Since the 17th century, the Festival of Lights in Lyon has been closely linked to the city’s religious history. In 1852, a statue of the Virgin Mary erected at the Chapel of the Hill of Fourvière was to be inaugurated on September 8th, but the Saône river flooded and forced the cancellation of the ceremony. The inauguration was postponed to December 8th, Immaculate Conception Day. That December evening, the people of Lyon spontaneously put lights in their windows, and the Festival of Lights was born!

On 9 February 2009, RTÉ unveiled its brand-new state-of-the-art studio during its One o'clock News bulletin. It features three high-bright Barco video walls and a cutting-edge Encore Presentation System, which Barco installed and integrated in barely two weeks.

During his "Berlin Calling Tour" Paul Kalkbrenner performed on 17 April 2010 in the Jahrhunder Halle in Frankfurt. Pfadfinderei, an internationally renowned design collective, was responsible for the visualization of Kalkbrenners performance on the stage. For the lighting effects Max Schöntag was in charge. A team of cameramen around Max Penzel recorded the event in High Definition.

The history of Benfica TV (BTV) channel came to light from within the club itself. The project isowned by the Sport Lisboa e Benfica club (51% of the capital) and by the SAD (the remaining49%). After the constitution of Benfica TV as a legal body and the final decision on its managementmodel, Benfica TV starts broadcasting in 2008. It broadcasts live full matches, interviews with staff, players, and historic matches, as well as other sports.

French Open got Sony 3D treatment

It is increasingly rare to find a major sports event which isn't covered at least in part by 3D stereoscopic cameras. The FIFA World Cup will provide the largest global grandstand for the format but 3D recording and transmission also debuted in 2010 at cricket in India, ice hockey in New York and at the World Championships in Germany, the rugby Six Nations tournament in London & Paris and the State of Origin in Australia, Ryder Cup, Golf Masters and PGA Tour, while events like surfing, darts and boxing have all received 3D trials. After the UEFA Champions League final in Madrid, UEFA is mulling plans to transmit select matches of the Champions League in 3D while nearly all motorsports bodies have also conducted tests. Selected matches of the English Premier League and the French Ligue 1 are covered on Sky 3D UK respectively Orange since April, as well as NFL matches on ESPN 3D. And two of the German Football Cup matches were aired live within 24 hours on Sky 3D Germany in October.

Appointed as the Host Broadcaster for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa, HBS has decided to renew its successful collaboration with EVS for the supply of instant tapeless technology and support services during the production of this world class event. The Production Plan for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ is based on standards ‘substantially similar’ to the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, with some innovations and improvements. Other partners of HBS at the IBC and at the Venues are Barco, Camera Corps, Dolby, Grass Valley, Lawo (ABS), Media Broadcast, Panasonic and Riedel.

3D Production: FIFA World Cup™ 2010

In December 2009, FIFA and Sony announced plans for 3D coverage of 25 FIFA World Cup matches. Integral in the selection and adoption of the technologies were Peter Angell, HBS director of production & programming, who served as FIFA special 3D project leader, and Duncan Humphreys, 3D consultant to HBS for the World Cup and partner in UK-based 3D production company Can Communicate. The aim was to deliver to TV-viewing soccer fans a new experience of their sports and to cheer even more about the World Cup. The tournament should help to kick off what TV makers, networks – and advertisers – hope to become a new dimension in home sports viewing and sports viewing in cinemas.

The 2010 Tour de France was the 97th edition of the Tour de France cycle race, one of cycling's Grand Tours. It started on 3 July with an 8.9 km prologue time trial in Rotterdam, the first start in the Netherlands since 1996. The race visited three countries: the Netherlands, Belgium and France, and finished on 25 July on the Champs-Élysées in Paris .
