quattro media Gets Creative With Drone and Cineflex Cams at FISA WRCH 2017
When hurricane “Irma” hit the Florida west-coast just 10 days before the opening of the WRCH event, nobody really believed that the 2017 rowing world championships would really see the light of days. Luckily the damage in the Sarasota/Bradenton area kept within bounds and the green light could be given to finally invite more than 950 athletes, officials and media over to the Suncoast to witness medal competitions in 26 different rowing events. Local organizers together with hundreds of volunteers did an unbelievable job to organize and setup the Benderson Park into a high-class sport event arena that provided best conditions and especially calm and fair wind conditions, staging outstanding competitions that will be remembered for a long time. It was not an easy decision for FISA and their broadcast production partner quattro media to go with a new approach to update their rowing live coverage with the integration of production tools like a live drone camera that lately received a lot of critical feedback especially out of the sports event perspective.

MOBILE PRODUCTION
ARENA OBX-Y-Z
These three OB units are the first large-scale implementation of a native IP work flow capable of multi-casting in UHD HDR, UHD SDR, HD and SD. Data is fully IP from the camera CCU through the vision mixer to transmission. This makes the truck considerable more capable than the existing baseband approach that uses 4 copper cables for each path. • IP maintains and enhances the high production standards of an HD workflow • No bottlenecks associated with legacy baseband Quad-HD designs • Supports both GV’s (and Sony’s) native UHD cameras • A base-band Quad-HD layer for legacy and back-up purposes • Scalable on-site and off-site remote production as standard • Multi-format HDR as standard; upgradeable to 4K high frame rates and 8K

SHOW EVENTS
Satisfaction Unfiltered!
With more than 50 years of instantly recognisable classics to choose from and a reputation for never resting on their laurels when it comes to show design, the Stones arguably offer the most reliable guarantee of entertainment satisfaction on the planet. Straight out of the starting gate, the hypnotic red wash of ‘Sympathy For The Devil’ sets the pace for a performance that delivers raw excitement, song after song. There is still nothing quite like a Rolling Stones concert. No Filter marks another stunning victory for Rolling Stones production manager Dale ‘Opie’ Skjerseth who engaged what he referred to as “my A team” – creative director Patrick Woodroffe and set designer Ray Winkler from Stufish Entertainment Architects, with Jeremy Lloyd of Wonder Works co-ordinating the technical design elements and working with Stageco’s project manager Hedwig De Meyer and R&D engineers Tom Frederickx, Patrick Martens and Kai Eppinger, to create two complete steel, tower and roof systems.
Blackmagic Design Live Solution Used on the 2017 OneRepublic Honda Civic Tour
Live director and company owner Stuart Merser of Vis-a-Vis Media designed and specified the video rack along with Jeff Nolte of OCD Labs around switching, routing and monitoring hardware from Blackmagic Design, enabling him to create unique live video manipulation of the band’s performances, including touring, festival appearances and corporate commitments. “The rack is designed to be powerful but portable; it’s a very modular system, with everything we might need for a show. However we can easily connect to additional hardware components or integrate our system into a venue’s existing infrastructure,” explains Stuart. “That means we can fly into a venue or festival, connect the cameras there into the rack over BNC, giving me instant control over the show.”

Canon enhances 2/3” broadcast portable zoom lens range
The new CJ45ex9.7B and CJ45ex13.6B comprise the high performance required for use with 4K broadcast cameras, thanks to Canon’s proprietary optical design technology. Fluorite and Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) glass achieve high-quality 4K optics from the centre of the imaging field to the periphery across the entire zoom range, whilst innovations in the lens ensure high sharpness and best in class aberration control. As a result, these lenses are ideal for 4K HDR image capture in virtually any environment from close-ups to panoramic views of sports stadiums or concert venues. Both lenses are capable of achieving a 45x zoom ratio and focal length ranges of 9.7 mm to 437 mm and 13.6 mm to 612 mm, respectively.

Bundesliga the world’s first league to use automated audio mixing
Bundesliga TV viewers are able to enjoy a new sound experience in their living rooms. For this purpose, DFL subsidiary Sportcast, which produces all Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches, has launched a new audio production system. Live tracking data on the players is used to set the correct input levels for the microphones used to record what is going on in the field. This creates an entirely new and realistic audio experience for the viewer. DFL subsidiary Sportcast coordinated the activities of the two service providers Lawo and ChyronHego and helped to ready the technology for the market in a two-year development and testing phase.

FIFA at the forefront of broadcast technology
In an effort to remain at the forefront of the industry, all sixty-four matches will be produced in Ultra High Definition with High Dynamic Range for the first time ever. Thanks to a hybrid UHD/HDR/1080p setup multiple choice of video formats will be available (1080i, 1080p or UHD HDR) at the back of one single production chain. The use of progressive scanning as a baseline production format and HDR will guarantee improved image quality for all Media Rights Licensees, regardless of their delivery format. Thirty-seven cameras, of which eight with UHD/HDR and 1080p/SDR dual output, and another eight with 1080p/HDR and 1080p/SDR dual output, will cover every match. Further eight Super-slow-motion and two Ultra-motion cameras, a cable-cam and a cineflex heli-cam, will ensure high-class pictures will be available from every angle in each stadium.
