Aggreko Powers Venues as London Prepares
Aggreko engineers and event management experts are supporting the ‘London Prepares’ series, part of the preparation for the London 2012 Games which is enabling LOCOG to test key aspects of operational readiness. The programme of international sporting events is being hosted at a series of venues to test systems, operational approaches and procedures. The first phase of test events was successfully completed in 2011, with Aggreko providing temporary power and engineering support at Horse Guards Parade for beach volleyball and at Eton Dorney, the venue for rowing and canoe sprints. Aggreko will support LOCOG at major venues during the various phases of the ‘London Prepares’ series, including the Velodrome and the Hockey Centre. In addition, Aggreko will provide temporary power to test all venues’ systems, as part of the commissioning process.

Olympic Games 2012: Football
Football will be a major feature of the Olympic programme at London 2012. Beginning with group matches and ending with a knockout phase, the competition will offer all the drama that fans have come to expect from major international tournaments. There will be two medal events at London 2012, one for men’s teams and one for women. The Football competition at London 2012 will be staged at six grounds around the UK, including venues in Wales (Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium) and Scotland (Hampden Park in Glasgow). The finals will take place at Wembley Stadium in London.

ATK Audiotek at Lucas Oil Stadium For Super Bowl XLVI
For Super Bowl XLVI, ATK Audiotek deployed its custom-designed cart system, which allows for easy setup between events, and quick transport of the VERTEC loudspeakers on and off the field. Each of the 18 carts included four JBL VERTEC VT4889 fullsize line array elements and two VT4880A fullsize arrayable subwoofers. In addition to its cart system, ATK also utilized the JBL VERTEC and VLA line arrays that comprise the house PA system at Lucas Oil Stadium. ESCO Communications installed the system, which was designed by WJHW, for Lucas Oil Stadium’s opening in 2008.

The ceremony, hosted by Antoine De Caunes, was broadcasted live on GQ Magazine website and on the Facebook page of the magazine. The production company “Tête à Claps” gave the production and the live stream operation to EV CORP. EV CORP delegated five persons to be on site, 1 production operator, 2 assistants, 1 production manager and 1 PR manager. The HD production system set up for this VIP event included 4 cameras PMW EX and 3 Sony, controlled by remotes Sony RMB 150, 1 teleprompter, 1 recorder AJA KI Pro and 1 TriCaster 850 EXTREME paired with Tricaster 850 CS for mixing, titling and streaming. Lee Rose, of the Los Angeles-based lighting design firm Design Partners, has been handling the lighting for America’s time-honored “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” show for an incredible 25+ years. Over the course of that quarter century he has developed a reputation for incorporating some of the latest dynamic lighting gear into his designs. “I chose the Auras after seeing a demo of them at the Martin Professional offices in Los Angeles,” he says. “Their small size and quick movement along with the zoom feature led me to specify them for this design.”

Colt Supports the Berlin International Film Festival’s Transition to Digital Cinema
Berlinale is the largest public film festival in the world, with expected public ticket sales of over 300,000 The event will showcase around 400 films at cinema halls across the city, whilst approximately 1,500 international buyers are expected to view more than 700 films at the European Film Market (EFM) running alongside the festival, taking the total screenings during the EFM and Berlinale to 2,400. For the first time, more than half of the content viewed at Berlinale will be digital in its format, marking a significant step in the industry’s transition towards digital cinema.

Selenio Gains 150+ Users Worldwide in First 12 Months
Every day, more and more broadcast and media companies in countries across the world are investing in the Selenio platform as a key piece of their infrastructure builds and upgrades. European users include Mediatec Broadcast Sweden, which is using Selenio to provide a video head end (VHE) solution for the playout of two high-definition (HD) IPTV channels from its regional playout facility based in Helsinki, Finland. “This is the initial phase of our investment plans for video head end solutions within the Mediatec operations, but if it goes well we intend to move towards a consolidated approach where we use Selenio as the common platform for all encoding and playout requirements across our network,” explained Andreas Langell, manager, contribution and distribution services at Mediatec Broadcast Sweden.

Utilizing the latest Apple Mac Mini hardware, ToolsOnAir is helping to drive the next generation of cost effective "Channel in a Box" broadcast solutions. Using ToolsOnAir's just:play software, an Apple Mac Mini becomes an HD broadcast quality playout, automation and real time graphics server, consuming a mere 85 Watts of power and housed in only one broadcast rack unit (1RU). "We replaced our entire proprietary hardware system with a pair of Mac Minis, with two spares for backup," says Luc Vleugels, Xite's Technical Director. Playoutcenter for Mediatec Broadcast AS in Oslo/Norway
In late 2011 Broadcast Solutions implemented a complete TV playout center for Mediatec Broadcast AS in Oslo/Norway. The studio consists of a master control room and a central control room with 52 decoders, 28 encoders, 16 up/down/cross converters, 16 channel Dolby E, one 288x576 Snell Cygnus video router and one 576x576 Snell Cygnus video router. Four stations are handled with the Probel Morpheus automation system and seven EVS servers: the “Rikstoto” sports channel and three Viasat channels. Two production studios, each with six cameras, are connected to the main control room, an external connection to an OB truck is also provided.

ACS have made a significant investment in the development and delivery of a range of 3D camera systems which mirror its service provision offered in HD. As part of its on-going commitment to the development of specialist cameras, ACS has launched two new 3D heads, the Hammerhead and Remora. The Hammerhead and Remora add to ACS’ compliment of 3D specialist cameras which include flown and ground based rail systems as well as tracking vehicles, using gyro stabilised heads and the Element Technica Pulsar Mirror Rig.

AG-3DP1 3D P2 HD Shoulder Mounted Camera Recorder
Improvements in the 3DP1’s suite of 3D controls include a new convergence assist function, whereby parallax can be easily adjusted while confirming the safety area through the display of the amount of dashing out/ drawing in on the LCD screen in the shape of waves. The 3DP1 records in AVC-Intra 100/50 and is 50Hz/60Hz switchable, an added benefit to producers with global clients. In AVC-Intra 100/50, it records in 1080 at 59.94i, 29.97pN, 23.98pN, 50i and 25pN and in 720p at 59.94p and 50p, 29.97pN, 23.98pN, 25pN. For creative flexibility, the 3DP1 has variable frame rate recording for creating fast and slow motion effects. In 720p mode, a user can choose from 20 variable frame steps between 12 and 60 frames per second.

Belgian Live Shows Combine Real-Life Actors with 3D Projection Technology
The popular Belgian children’s television shows „Piet Piraat“ and „Mega Mindy“ were recently turned into two hugely successful stage productions involving state of the art 3D projection technology. Studio 100, one of Belgium’s most important TV production companies, had to face the challenge of trying to do justice to the excitement of the series’ popular characters’ adventures. In the case of the super heroine Mega Mindy and the charming Pirate Piet, the actors were able to interact with a combination of traditional set pieces and 3D projections live on stage.
